    What happened to Jon Lester????

is this another case of a guy getting a huge contract and losing his work ethic?

Lester looks like absolute shit in 2015... Cubs gotta be having buyers remorse.

    That's a loss I'll never get over... Up 7-3, bottom 8, 1 out, 1 on-- gives up 4 runs.

He got a big payday at the right time, or if you look at it from the Cubs point of view, the wrong time. It's early though. Lots of pitchers have a crappy April. Let him get a few starts in before you bury him.

looks like a case of steve blass or chuck knobloch disease. red sox dodged a bullet here and dumped one on theo. yet, he may rebound and be another john tudor, who won 20 straight for stl louis after boston dumped him.

It's a week into the season bear, relax. In all reality though I never thought Lester was an elite pitcher. Very good, but not top tier...

He's got the yips. Just give him time. If it doesn't work itself out in 3 or 4 more starts, he may become a basket case.

BINGO! He has that mental block when guys get on now... Always amazes me when you see professional ball players have those issues like throwing the ball to first. i.e. Chuck Knoblauch & Steve Sax (guy had 30 errors in 89') ewwwiiieeeee!

Have to think cubs fans are regretting that contract already. How much did he get $160 million?

    He got paid.

Another GM paying for past performance.

What the Angels do best (Pujols, Hamilton). Why Angels and Cubs will never win world series. See how the Cardinals do it.

And the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Nats. All the bigger market teams that spend money. Big money deals always have past performance that fuels the big deal. So in your scenario, the team would never give a big FA contract. Some work, some don't. That's life. Can't have a team full of this, but you have to take shots now and then on FA.

yep. just sucks that your team took a shot on lester for 155 million and lets just say it does not look promising so far

Not too concerned. Lester typically starts slow and had a very short ST. His career ERA is over 4 in both April and May 4. Well under 4 every other month.

These gigantic one man contracts kill these teams.

Ravens declined after giving Flacco that huge contract...Why now Seattle's GM has quite the decision on his hands about Russell Wilson

Redskins do this every year as well.

Overpaid is relative. If the Cubs hadn't given it to him, they'd have sat on it and would be a worse team, with a lower payroll. There wasn't a better spend for the cash. I guess maybe they could have spent more for Scherzer. Cubs can afford to overpay starters to balance out the low salaries of all the young position players.

It's a good formula really. Young, cheap controllable hitting talent along with a few well-paid ace FA starters.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester hit a major milestone against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, striking out his 2,000th career batter.

Lester’s victim was D-backs infielder Jack Reinheimer, who happened to be making his big-league debut in that at-bat. Lester finished his evening throwing four innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out nine batters. He also hit his first career home run earlier in the game, a two-run shot that gave the Cubs an 8-1 lead over Arizona. Lester is now fourth among active left-handed pitchers in strikeouts.
