    Here's the real-time radar.
That massive green blob in the Atlantic is going to smack us in about two hours.
This thing is a heavy rainmaker, like two inches (potentially) of liquid sunshine. that's a shit ton of rain.

New Haven, CT Weather Radar Map | MSN Weather

    I love classic nor'easters

A strong nor’easter is unleashing damaging winds as it moves up the East Coast. Its most severe conditions are on the way

Our pals in Toronto will be spared; looks like it'll just be cloudy for Game 1.

I like the dog Mariners in Game 1
    Who let the dogs out?

I ask you, Header? Who gives you rainstorm updates, game selections, and an amusing dog gif? All in one post?

      Nasher, you’re the man. Thanks!

Home teams seem to be the theme this playoffs, except for Phillies. Liking the under and Jays for today.

I'm back on the M's again tonight.
I'm standing firm on what I said a month ago, that the M's will be a difficult out come October.

The wrong team was favored going in, and the wrong team was favored last night.
Toronto out-thumped the Yankees. I don't think they can hit the M's staff.
Gilbert as an October dog? Yes please.

OT MLB news here but Padres manager Mike Shildt suddenly retired...

That is a real gut punch he was a very good manager.

*There's no such thing as an OT in baseball*

                  I don't know what's going on there.
The baseball media up here hasn't really covered that story yet.
Reading Preller's words. It doesn't sound like a forced retirement. I hope it's not a health scare and just a burnout situation where he just doesn't have it in him to do that grind any longer.

                    The Athletic

In an abrupt announcement on Monday, manager Mike Shildt said he had retired from the San Diego Padres, close to two weeks after his team lost to the Chicago Cubs in three games in the National League Wild Card Series.

Shildt, the first Padres manager to oversee back-to-back 90-win campaigns, is the fifth full-time manager to depart under president of baseball operations A.J. Preller. His exit comes just four years after he was fired by the St. Louis Cardinals following a 90-win season and a one-game trip to the postseason. Shildt was under contract with the Padres through 2027.

Reached via text on Monday morning, Shildt wrote: “I’m very pleased with the decision. It just has taken a toll on me and didn’t have it in me to lead another team to a 90+ win season and World Series run!

“Looking forward to what’s next and just want to teach the game!”

Shildt, who informed the team of his decision over the weekend, did not immediately respond to a message seeking further comment. Preller is scheduled to address the media on Tuesday.

“We would like to congratulate Mike on a successful career and thank him for his significant contributions to the Padres and the San Diego community over the last four years, including consecutive 90-win seasons and two postseason appearances as manager,” Preller said in a statement. “His dedication and passion for the game of baseball will leave an impact on our organization, and we wish him the best in his next chapter. The search for a new manager of the Padres will begin immediately with the goal of winning a World Series championship in 2026.”

Shildt, 57, went 183-141 with San Diego and 252-199 since first becoming the Cardinals’ manager in 2018. In October 2021, following a 91-win season, the Cardinals dismissed Shildt, citing “philosophical differences” as the reason. Shildt subsequently joined the Padres as a player development consultant ahead of the 2023 season.

The list of candidates to replace Shildt in San Diego is expected to include Padres pitching coach Ruben Niebla, who has previously expressed interest in becoming a big-league manager, and special assistant and former Mariners manager Scott Servais.

                    This story will be updated.

                                Monster Game Seven matchup.
There's nothing better in life than a Game Seven.
OK, maybe you're wedding day, or your wife giving birth to your first son, but that's about it.

                                Game Seven
                                George Kirby v. Shane Beiber
                                Great matchup.

Kirby's stuff is lethal when he's on, when he's not he'll give up a tater or two.
It's better to give up a solo HR than walk a power hitter, it's the three run bombs that'll kill ya.
Beiber is pretty much the same way.
If this is a bullpen game, (and I think it will be) the Mariners have the advantage.

I need to double check myself a little later, but I think I'm 12-9, a little over 4* give or take.

                                Game Seven
                                Mariners +110 (Kirby) Toronto.
                                1*

Sorry, we went out last night. I just saw this.
I had no play, but yes, Jays were indeed the right side.

LA in game two, I'm not thrilled laying 35 cents though.

On paper, from a strict analytical POV, tonight's game has 10+ runs written all over it.
Glasnow has had a stellar season, no denying that (albeit an abbreviated season), but Springer and Vlad have owned Glasnow when he pitched in the AL for Tampa Bay, and the little 2B Gimmenez has hit Glasnow in the past as well.

Even though BvP is not a go-to stat, it's more like an ancillary metric that should be looked at, as it gives you an indication as to what batter is comfortable facing a certain pitcher.

Max (who'll be in Cooperstown on the first ballot) is very hittable these days.
Mookie has lit up Max when he was in Boston, and the super utility man (Edman) is 6-15 lifetime v. Max with pop.

I'm looking at OVER 8.5 tonight, (both starters will be fiver and fly, and I'm counting on LAs 'pen to gag up some runs. I may fool around with an Edman/Mookie/Springer type pick six play, too.

                                        '

                                          OVER 8.0 total runs.

I may toss in a prop or two I'm looking at, but the OVER is my pre-game play here.

                                          *not for nothing*
The prop numbers and odds have been driving me nuts for the past hour.
An hour ago, the total number of outs Max will record was 14.5; now it's 10.5.
(Did somebody in a high place leak something to the press they shouldn't have?)

Toronto goes back-to-back and belly-to-belly in the first inning.
First three pitches of the game, two solo shots.

(And we have yet another new World Series trivia question)
As that has never happened before in the history of MLB.
