What an embarassment to the university, it's students and fans, and Lane Kiffin himself...

an eye witness report: I was at the riot. The charged the stadium because they news misreported that he was at Neyland Stadium in order to get the students to leave to the stadium so they could get him out of there. Lane and Layla's numbers were on the rock and there were hundreds or students out. Fires were lit in both locations but no on any UT property. There is also a "It's Time" T-shirt burning taking place this weekend. There were cameras everywhere video will be on youtube later I'm sure. The police showed up with a firetruck to hose down the crowd and it dispersed. Kiffin's home address is also going around so people will likely be at his house. A few players were there and they said that Ed Orgeron offered the midterm guys at the meeting, and at that point order broke down and players began to yell at Kiffin and he left.

Fans burned Lane Kiffin T-shirts, a mattress and chanted obscenities, blocking Kiffin's path from the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex as he and his father, defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, stayed in their offices......
Fans began congregating near UT's practice facilities shortly after news of Kiffin's departure broke.
Dozens of students and fans marched into the sports complex chanting obscenities at Kiffin, who at that time was informing his players of his departure during a team meeting in a separate area guarded by UT personnel.
The crowd then moved to an office area where an impromptu press conference was to be held for Kiffin to make his announcement.
At that point, police were called to quell the crowd, which calmed when officers arrived.
Officers were instructed to allow the approximately two dozen fans to remain in the area as long as they remained calm. That didn't last long.
The fans began chanting and officers removed the crowd, which left without incident.
The crowd then moved to Johnny Majors Way, located in between the athletic complex and Gibbs Hall, a dorm which houses football players, and grew exponentially.
Many players, fresh out of an emotional meeting, met with the crowd as they exited the athletic complex.
One player called Kiffin a traitor. Several called the 34-year-old much worse.
"Talk about family?" one unidentified player said, "(Expletive) him. Let's burn this (expletive) down. I don't care."
Later in the evening the crowd became positive, chanting UT fight songs and rallying around the stunned players. Police were present, mostly just to keep fans off the street and on the sidewalks.
Once the players left, however, the crowd turned to Kiffin's pending exit from the sports complex, blocking the one route from the building. That's when the burning started and the Knoxville Fire Department was called to the scene.
Police met with Kiffin to provide him a safe escort from the property. Perhaps he could have used the same officers when he told UT's players of his departure in the Vols' team meeting.
Several players said younger Vols repeatedly interrupted Kiffin as he was trying to explain his decision.
"There was a lot of disrespectful guys," linebacker Herman Lathers said. "Guys that have to grow up. Just let the man talk and see what he has to say.
". . . They kind of settled down at the end."
Most players said they were shocked by the news. Some said they had followed the USC hiring search and began to wonder if Kiffin might become more of a candidate as other candidates turned the Trojans down.
"Call Phil," defensive end Ben Martin yelled amidst the crowd, referring to former coach Phillip Fulmer. "Get him his (expletive) job back."
Kiffin wasn't the only UT coach to talk at the meeting. His father, defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, also spoke.
"He talked to the defense as a whole," Lathers said. "He said it's family and you follow family. He had no desire to go back to the NFL (where he spent most of his career). He was just following his family."
Offensive tackle Aaron Douglas, whose father, David Douglas, also played for the Vols, was obviously upset.
"I can tell you I wasn't happy," the former Maryville High School star said. "Everybody had told me different things and in this meeting I heard something else. I was told loyalty and stuff like that, but these coaches obviously didn't stick by it."
Douglas questioned aloud if Kiffin ever truly understood Tennessee football.
"He worked his butt off," Douglas said. "You can see that by what happened. But understood? I don't think so because of what is happening now."
The news on Tuesday marked the second time in less than a 1<0x0192> years that UT's players learned of their coach's departure via the media instead of from UT officials.
"I had to hear about it on ESPN," offensive tackle Cody Pope said. "Were we mad? Yeah, of course. But at the same time it's a business and Tennessee is going to survive.
"We're still going to be playing football in Neyland Stadium."

The Big Orange Army took to the streets of Knoxville near Johnny Majors Blvd. (a coach with real class) and demanded Lane Kiffin.
Reportedly, mattresses and boxes were set on fire and had to be put out as the fans waited for Kiffin to emerge from the building where he held his cowardice conference.
Later on, they burned Kiffin in effegy and painted obscene gestures about him and his wife on the Rock on campus near the Hill.
Note to Lane: Earthquakes in Southern California will feel like manna from Heaven compared to what the Big Orange hoped to give you Tuesday night.
He appeared as if he feared for his life for the press conference he held to let reporters know in his defiant, smug tone that he was "leaving the program better than he found it" 14 months ago. With arms folded, he left quickly without questions taken and he turned his back on his players for the second time in one day.
As he emerged, they chased him down the street and several talked about going to his house. Good thing his introductory press conference is at USC so early tomorrow.
Yeah, if I were you Lane, I would catch the red eye out to the West Coast and never look back. No one in the SEC likes you and you need to pray the Trojans never have to face the SEC post season as well. We will make sure to bring our "whoopin sticks" to face the "boys" at USC.
Funny that you left under the cover of darkness, but then maybe not so much ironic as it might seem. Your "boys" need to hurry and get out of K-Town as well because they are as much the enemy now as you are. Al Davis, as crazy as he may be, was exactly right when he summed you up in words: "Lane Kiffin is a professional liar."

Former Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron has contacted multiple UT mid-term enrollees and encouraged them not to attend class today so that they can easily leave UT and enroll at Southern California, multiple sources told the News Sentinel.
Orgeron, who joined USC's staff when Lane Kiffin was hired as coach on Tuesday, did not immediately return a text message from the News Sentinel seeking comment.
By attending class today, the nine mid-term enrollees, who have been at UT since Monday, would have to follow strict transfer rules, which include sitting out a year.
It is unclear how many, or which, prospects Orgeron contacted.

Can you blame Kiffin for leaving? Tennessee had no realistic hope of becoming an SEC power, not with Saban and Meyer dominating recruiting in the area. Add on Richt and Miles, and you have a real problem. On top of all that, Miami has been reborn, Jimbo takes over at Florida State, Paul Johnson has done wonders at Ga. Tech, and Butch Davis is doing quite well recruiting at UNC. There was just way too much competition for Tennessee to recruit against, especially with the problems that the team, and the school, have had recently.
By the way, Tennessee will have another chance to lose to a Pac 10 team net year, hosting Oregon. Tennessee has lost 3 straight to Pac 10 teams, and this trend will continue this season. Fortunately, they do not have to play at Oregon until 2013.

USC had to roll the dice with Kiffin. They needed someone in a major hurry. They wanted to keep their current recruiting class, and improve it. For sure, this will make or break the program. Mike Garrett is under fire here, not so much for the hire, but for his baffoonery concerning his handling of the NCAA investigations. If USC fares well, he survives. If not, he is fired.
