1 year ago today I stopped smoking... you can too!
Guys, seriously there are few people on this planet that enjoyed and abused all forms of nicotine more than yours truly. I even went to bed with a dip of snuff in my mouth. But after 35 years of abuse/enjoyment I went cold turkey a year ago today. I used the patch and that really really helped!

Its a bit cliche-ish but if a class A addictive personality and semi-loser like me can do it then you can too!

A year later I feel frigging great!! Life is sooo much better not having to worry about nicotine and do I have a lighter and can I slip out the back and smoke. And how about always having one nostril blocked and your throat barbq'd in the back of your throat. All gone.

Anyone who quits and wants to write me or want any Tips or just for encouragement can write me at johnw1849@yahoo.com.

Good luck to anyone quitting today!

I quit about 19 years ago so I would add my voice that yes, it can be done.

You're right. It is a health issue and it is a freedom issue.

I wish I had ur strong will power. I have been wanting to quit for 3 years now. My daughter is almost 3 and she is always telling me "daddy, stop so u can play with me wen I get old " , I feel bad but still somehow smoke when she is not around. Such a Pu*sy, I am ashamed and disappointed in myself. This is getting me stressed out as I post this, and will probably light up now

Glad to hear it John! I've tried a few times and it's the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. I can't make it past 3 days and at that point I feel like a heroin addict needing a fix ( I'm assuming, since I've never done heroin) People who dont smoke have no idea how addictive it truly is, both mentally and physical. Keep it up!

Stopped smoking cigarettes two years ago, without question one of the smartest things I will ever do.
I do still have, and enjoy, the odd cigar.

I feel the same way, my daughter is 5 and deal with the same thing. My will power when it comes to smoking just blows!

I stopped a while ago but have been smoking more and more "only when I drink." Gotta cut it out completely again.

Paco, I was about a 12 time loser. Once I quit for 6 months. You can do it.

Ehp, it is deathly hard for sure. But they make a very strong patch that you can actually get more nicotine through the patch than you are taking in now. That will greatly reduce the horrible side effects and let you get through the first few days. I used a 21 and 7 ** patch, so a total of 28mg for the first week. You will be buzzed at 28mg. Then the second week go to 21mg.

Oh and to sleep you can either use an online pharmacy or your doctor to get a scribe for Zanaflex. This is a mild muscle relaxer that will allow you to easily sleep no matter how bad you are nicking. Also, you will wake with zero side effects. It wears off in about 2 hours so very mild.

Wow, John. I just googled your email and the search bot already picked up this thread less than 20 minutes from publishing. That's some nice coding and SEO. Good job to Whitey and team, maybe he deserves a raise or a fruit basket.

Wanting to quit and being ashamed of smoking are the first steps to quitting. Hang in there pal. It took me about 4 tries to quit but it finally stuck.

Use the nic gum and try sunflower seeds for a few weeks. Keeps your hands occupied.

The SBR team is the best. Of course one could say I am bias. But I am serious. The work ethic required to be on the SBR team is very demanding. They are 2nd to no other organization remotely connected to this business category.

I went from 190 to 224 over a 10 month period. Nothing helped. I just could not slow the weight gain. I have been working hard on it for 3 months and I just managed to get to 217 now. I had to diet to just stop gaining weight.

But one thing at a time. You can not do much about the weight gain for the first 6 months. Tackle the biggest evil first. There will be time for better eating and exercise later.

I quit 6 years ago after smoking a pack a day for 10 years. I went down 1 smoke a day per week until i stopped. The greatest decision of my life.

Never smoked in my life. Unfortunately, cigs are an accepted drug in our society [With an awful smell at that] and thus called a "habit" instead of an addiction. Thus downplaying just how dependent the average smoker is on the product.

The mind is like a movie screen. Thoughts pass over it. If you ignore a thought it passes across the screen without manifesting its potential. But if you single out a thought, it takes on reality. And if you then charge the thought, it becomes real (to you). At the first stage, of singling out a thought, it is very easy to drop it, like a brick, but you need to recognize it in that subtle phase. It becomes harder to drop the underlying thought, after you have charged it with energy.

If you want to stop something, like smoking, you have to understand that you have to free yourself from the duality of smoking. Your mind works with polar opposites, in this case smoking/non-smoking. If you constantly affirm that you don't want to smoke, you actually keep the thought of smoking alive. That thought follows the other like a shadow. Some will power may be required, at first, to break very strong habits, but for the most part the key is just a complete nonchalance. You don't care one way or the other; smoking or non smoking. You dropped the thought. Your mind is free of the self-hypnosis. As it was before.

There is no great victory in dropping a thought. It's just basic mind control. You stopped smoking? Big deal. Why stop there?
