SERIOUS QUESTION FOR all GAMBLERS/BLACKJACK PLAYERS
I have a blackjack question for the board.

Now, As is the case in all aspects of Blackjack, it depends on the situation of course,

but I am asking this question in general. Dont assume an inordinate amount of face cards or low cards. Just assume its the first hand of the shoe.

    Here is the question.

You are dealt a 4 and a 9 for a total of 13. Dealers up card is a 6. What do you do here ?

Hit the 13 or stand ?

    TIA

            OK Burt,

Why is it that 30% of the players at any table I am at will always hit in this spot and when I say anything questioning it they look at me like I am nuts.

My god could there be a more obvious decision, but I swear to god no matter what table I am playing at there is always 1 or 2 jackasses who will hit this.

Today, I bet $75 which is a big bet for me on one hand, and I am dealt 2 and then 9 for 11, the dealer turns up a 6, so right away I know I am doubling this down. I am feeling very natious (sp) already because $150 is a real big bet for me, but 11 against a 6 has to double down.

So I am at third base and the guy playing the spot right before me has 13 so I assume he stands. The ****er HITS and Draws a JACK BUST with 23. I usually dont say shit out loud but I am like **** dude that was my jack and she is showing a 6. I couldnt believe it.

The guy says "sorry dude, but I gotta play my hand ". I am like she is showing a 6 dude, and is was obvious he didnt even understand what I was saying. So I almost didnt doube, but I double and catch a king for 21 anyway. Then the dealer flips over an 8 and draws a 5 for 19.

So the guy before me fuked the whole table but not me. Then he says again, "I gotta play my hand, dude" and I am like dude, I shouldnt say anything cause its your money but she was showing a 6. The amazing thing is that I said "she was showing a 6" 3 or 4 times, and that didnt mean shit to him. Even afterwards he didnt understand the significance of her showing a 6.

Funny thing is that this happens all too often. I mean how the fuk can 30% of the people playing blackjack not understand something so simple that I would expect a junior high kid to understand.

                yeah sam odom,

Thats the point. There is no question. This is a 100% no brainer. So the real question is --- what happened to the brains of 30% of the dumbasses who play blackjack.

I mean this doesnt just happen once in a blue moon. There are plenty of idiots who would hit this.

I think I will take my cell phone to the casino and make a JJ Gold style video of some of the stupid idiotic brainless dumb **** shit people do in a casino. Like betting $10 on black and $10 on red as well. That way there is no way he can lose. LOL. Yeah, I saw that once.

Or splitting 9's against a 10, or hitting 14's and 15's against a 5 or a 6. So much stupid shit I see people do in a casino. I know I am not an expert but I dont make stupid third grade mistakes either.

I have played blackjack in Vegas for countless hours and the stupidity of players goes well beyond a 13/6 hand. I do the same thing in your shoes, I generally freak the f*** out, but after lecturing so many Joe Publics I just stop caring. Usually at the $25 tables people are skilled enough to play basic strategy. The $5 and $10 tables though people literally have no clue. I have seen people request a stand on 10. I have seen people hit hard 17 because they had 4 small cards in a row so surely another small card is coming.

Splitting 10s is the other thing. That usually only happens with the really dumb Joe Publics because they are dumb and arrogant.

My best story is sitting next to a beautiful married woman on BlackJack for 2 hours. I am playing strict basic strategy, people are literally jumping out of their seats when they see me hit a 16 against 10. I split 8's, get 2 18 hands and beat the dealers 17, people are saying that I am a kid wizard that cannot lose. I was probably running right at 50% house edge. The beautiful woman next to me is making terrible decisions and losing very quickly. Eventually she begins asking me for help and I help her and lose a few hands and she doesn't understand. She continues to listen to me though and we eventually begin winning. This woman starts rubbing my hand and shoulders and thanking me. Then come the fukk-me eyes. Then the long sighs and slouching in chair and showing legs to me. At this point my own basic strategy shakes a little as I try to concentrate. We were staring at each others eyes and very very close to each other.

For some reason I did not have sex with this woman. I was at the Excalibur in Vegas so I could've easily bagged her in my room and she would've allowed it because "she was mad at her husband." She played with me until 5 AM and eventually got up and left, disappointed that I did not bang her lights out.

So that is my blackjack story. Funny?

Not stupid, recreational. The average guy doesn't care about making good plays. He just wants action and when you got a nagging wife in the livingroom and three screaming kids that $200 that you got on that BJ hand makes your day so much better.

It shocks me how many idiots play blackjack what is essentially a 49.75% - 50.25% game and the casino cleans up on the game because people dont take the time to learn the grid. There is no decision making in blackjack learn the grid play the grid, 0 variation, no thinking required. And it is always the biggest idiot at the end of the table when you up your bet and double that makes that moronic move. Best to go with a group and take over the whole table keep the idiots off the table. The splitting of tens is the worst also the morons that never take a bust card no matter what the dealer shows.

Nobs, there are plenty of stupid people that play blackjack. It's amazing to watch some of these idiots, casinos love these players as it's hard enough to win playing perfect strategy. I don't get pissed at these people as they will take the dealer bust card just as often as they take the card that would give the dealer a 20 or 21.

The thing you have to remember, is that the other players' decisions have ZERO effect on your EV in the long run. I realize it may be frustrating in any single hand, but it really has no effect at all. Plus, it's much better to just keep to yourself than to lecture people who either don't care, are too dumb to understand, or worse, believe what they are doing is 100% the right move. I only help people at blackjack tables if they ask, otherwise it's more trouble than it's worth.

While I understand your point, the true reason the casino cleans up is because the average joe doesn't understand bankroll management. Most often people use a unit that is too large for their bankroll, hit a streak of negative variance, and bust out before the positive variance hits.

A dealer showing a 6 is the single best hand you can hope for the dealer. The vast majority of the time this means that a dealer has somewhere between a 12 and a 16 (hopefully a 16), and has to draw a card with a risk of busting. With a 13, you have a risk of busting, and therefore it is better for you to just wait it out and pray for the dealer to bust.

Basic strategy and money management are the key. From my many years of playing I would say less than 20% play PERFECT strategy.

Basic strategy & Oscar's Grind will get you free RFB and you'll 'break even' at the table. If you want to show a $$$ profit you must learn a two level count (min) and play it well

This is for real, I wanna be better ait it.
Mathematically it is around 49% that the dealer busts from a 6.
Your odds of winning hitting from 13 are just over 31%.

Dont use that table on SBR Blackjack

SBR BLACKJACK always gets 20 or 21 drawing 4 cards

I was using single deck BJ using the table given on this thread and I lost 20 points, played like 50 hands!

It's amazing to watch some of these idiots, casinos love these players as it's hard enough to win playing perfect strategy. I don't get pissed at these people as they will take the dealer bust card just as often as they take the card that would give the dealer a 20 or 21.

I know its true and I usually dont say anything. I made the mistake of raising my bet to a higher level then I am really comfortable with, then came the doubkle down so now I am looking at $150 bet. If I had a $10 or $20 bet out I wouldnt have said anything. But here I am thinking, this is going to be a double down and I am either going to win or lose $150 in one pop, then I am expecting him to stand without any hesitation and he takes the very card I needed. So my emotions were already running away with me, then I am thinking FUK that stupid play is going to cost me $300. So I couldnt hold back saying, damn dude she is showing a 6. And the thing that really got me is that in his mind the dealer showing a 6 was irrelevant.

Most often people use a unit that is too large for their bankroll, hit a streak of negative variance, and bust out before the positive variance hits.

You arent going to just say -- well my EV is the same whether he hit or lost. No, you are going to be pissed. Yes, my stupid play could just as well help you as hurt you, but if its helps you than you will forget it. If it costs you $1000 it aint so easy to forget.
