Polamalu can't offer Steelers a quick fix
"If the reeling Steelers are going to right themselves Sunday against Baltimore, they likely will do so without All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu. Polamalu said Monday that the knee injury he sustained Nov. 15 is worse than initially thought and that he might not be healthy enough to return until the regular-season finale Jan. 3. "Hopefully by the Miami game, I'll be ready to play," said Polamalu, who strained the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his left knee in an 18-12 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. What seems clear is Polamalu can't be depended on to be a short-term fix for a team in the midst of its first five-game losing streak since 2003. The Steelers have been a different ..."

The way Ravens have been lighting the score board up lately folks I don't see anything that's going to change on Sunday against the Steelers.

Bottom line this won't be the classic battle you can safely put your house and kid's on the over on this one guaranteed

Tough break, Polamalu is the only player on that defense with some talent.

guys a ****ing scrub...Pitt needs to draft another SS for when Troy aint able to play...

              FURTHER EXPLAINED:
After winning the Superbowl management decided Troy could be the engine of the Steelers defense as a whole this is true only if he's healthy.Blame this one on management!!!I guess management thinks shut down corners grow on trees "should have never let Mcfadden go!"
Gay is a sorry replacement for the Fadd, he couldn't cover himself with a kingsize blanket!
The only tree the steelers have that yields fruit is the linebacker tree!

not that good. he just passed for 503 yards against the 3rd best defense in the nfl. did you watch the game or were you watching another game? did you see that last pass he threw? It was just like the pass in the superbowl. you have no clue what you are talking about. also, their offensive line sucks.

Dead wrong! Palamalu is just the corner stone James Harrison is by far the best outside linebacker in the NFL BAR NONE!!!He gets held every single play but the refferee's only call it once or twice if that per game and their DE line is one of the best as well their problem is the secondary corner back position without TROY to make them look good it's plain to see how worthless they are!! I'm talking about Gay mainly. FURTHER EXPLAINED:Gay is a sorry replacement for the Fadd MCFADDEN, he couldn't cover himself with a kingsize blanket!

weird statement, considering its the Defense has been the cause of most of the losses in the steelers losing streak, a perfect example is the raiders game, where Ben made 2-3 late drives to take the lead.... only to have the defense give it up again.

obviously the Steelers lose that last game without that amazing last drive, and last sec throw by Ben.... I've said it before, and I'll say it again. when it is all said and done barring injury when Roethlisberger retires he will be the greatest late and close pressure QB of all time..... its all about mentality, guts, and balls..... he has the intangibles

"Steelers safety Troy Polamalu could return to the lineup against the Baltimore Ravens if the results from Tuesday's MRI on his knee are positive, coach Mike Tomlin said. Tomlin, who has been optimistic about Polamalu's possible return at various times this season, is taking a wait-and-see approach. Polamalu has missed the past five games and has appeared in only five contests this season. "The result of his MRI is going to dictate what direction we take, like it has in recent weeks," Tomlin said."

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers safety Troy Polamalu didn't practice again Wednesday because of his injured left knee ligament and doesn't expect to play this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
Polamalu is "encouraged" by an MRI test he had Tuesday, but he doesn't anticipate practicing this week. Asked if he needs a week of practice before playing again, he said, "I would think so."

The five-time Pro Bowl safety has missed nine full games and most of two others because of separate ligament injuries in his left knee. He hasn't played since the opening series of a Nov. 15 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, although he has been working out in anticipation of a return.
"I've tried everything -- running, lifting, rehab," he said Wednesday.
Last week, Polamalu said he hoped to play in the Jan. 3 regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins.
Since Polamalu sprained his posterior cruciate ligament, the Steelers (7-7) have won only one of the six games he hasn't finished. They were 2-2 when Polamalu missed four games early in the season with a sprained anterior cruciate ligament.
Without Polamalu, the Steelers' defense has lost leads in the fourth quarter six times, and they recovered to win only one. Polamalu leads the Steelers with three interceptions despite playing just three full games all season.
"I don't believe that at all," Polamalu said when asked if his absence is hindering the Steelers' ability to close out games. "I've been part of a lot of defenses here, defenses that lost games in the fourth quarter. I don't think one man makes that big of a difference. There's not one player who is irreplaceable."
The Steelers ended a five-game losing streak last Sunday by beating the Green Bay Packers 37-36, despite twice giving up the lead in the fourth quarter. The comeback victory kept their modest playoff hopes alive.
"I think everybody feels a little better this week," Polamalu said. "We've got to get our confidence back, get in those situations and win in those situations."

Polamalu can't offer Steelers a quick fix
Considering the W-L and statistical differences with and without him this season, I would conclude that this is most likely false.

If the reeling Steelers are going to right themselves Sunday against Baltimore, they likely will do so without All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu.
