He has hip dysplasia. It is hereditary. Doctors can't do anything about it. He gets daily glucosamine chodroitin pills.

Actually I made this decision the other day as a new year resolution. I have told my family I will quit my sports gambling addiction if my dog gets better. So far I'm sticking to my end of the deal.

Sounds like arthitis... I remember my dads dog had it from sleeping on a concrete floor...he just got worse and died... But you never know!

6 years ago on christmas Eve I had to put my rotty down. She was all messed up with the same thing. Her hips went out on her. She couldn't even walk up the steps. It all happen in the blink of an eye. Best dog I ever had. I cried my eyes out when I buried her. She was like a family member to us. Good memories with her. I will pray for your dog. I know what your going through.

I can't put him down during the holidays. I have two toddlers who love him. I don't want to break the kids hearts around the holidays. I can't do this to my kids.

Hip and walking issues with dogs are no joking matter

the greatest shepherd that ever lived ..he was my heart and soul..we were psychoconetically connect..he limped 3 years ago..3 months and 10 grand maxed out later..he was in a wheel chair..I bought him a dog wheel chair from www.eddiescycles.com..he got around the block some..but did not like being in it..he prefered dragging himself around the house..no one would could come near me..he protected me with his heart and soul even though he could not walk..long story

February 13th as I was on a forum..I looked down at him..it was 3 pm..he was strong as an ox..and stubborn as a mule..his eyes teared..in a strange sort of way..like never before..from the center, not the corners..Although tragically unexpected ..he told me he was dying and his greatest fear was leaving me un protected..he took his last deep breaths in my lap as I sat against the black lounge chair..I am looking at it now and can still see him..he pissed and he pooped..and the dangling cold tongue set in

I cried as I carried him out to the back yard..burying him near my window

Love him every precious second..tomorrow they are not with us

Best of luck for your dog...

We're on our fourth minature dachshund...

The third one is 13 years old and in her BLD's (Brave Last Days)...

It will be a very sad day when we have to put her down and unfortunately that day isn't too far in the future...

Have you talked to your vet about some remidil? It's pretty well tolerated by most dogs and will certainly ease their discomfort...
