Dana White: BJ Penn is one fight away from a return to the UFC welterweight division
"There's a couple of guys out there still, you know I gotta sit down and talk to (Penn) and see what he wants to do, but it's all about cleaning out divisions and he's probably one fight away from doing that. If he does that, he could move up to 170 (pounds) again -- but I think BJ's gonna have to earn that. I don't think he just walks in from 155 and faces Georges St. Pierre. Georges has two wins over him so BJ is going to have to earn that at 170, whether it's going in and fighting a number one contender, I don't know yet. He would be in the running to be a contender." http://www.mmamania.com/2009/12/14/1...n-is-one-fight

I think Florian just might give him a match - although I must admit Penn made him seem hoplessly lost last time.

I believe Florian has improved his boxing skills but I still think BJ is just a bad match-up for Kenny

id take gsp, no doubt about it. Machida has yet to fight a well-rounded wrestler and/or someone with GSPs striking, until he fought rua. And GSP is far above well rounded.

ya open weight would make a huge difference, machida with 20+ pounds on gsp would be bad news for gsp. It would have to be a catchweight.

Penn is unbeatable at 155 - and is probably #2 at 170 if he shows up in shape
GSP is just about unbeatable at 170 - no fighter has improved as much as GSP - he's a better wrestler than all the all american wrestlers and it's not his background

I seriously doubt BJ Penn has the discipline to put on 15 quality pounds. He's not exactly ripped as it is.
