#38Notre Dame wanted him NOW. Notre Dame paid for him NOW. If Cincinnati could not match the offer, too bad. The line was -10 before Kelly left, and is -10 a we speak. Kelly has to organize a coaching staff, hit the recruiting trail, and hit the phones to convince kids who have already committed to Notre Dame to stay committed. All of this takes time. If Notre Dame had waited until the 1st of the year, they would have lost valuable recruiting time, and would have had a ton of decommits. It had to be this way. All I hear is a bunch of sour grapes. Wake up and smell the coffee people. This is Notre Dame. Not some Mickey Mouse Big East school.Comment -

#39Horrible hire. The coach doesn't make Notre Dame anymore, the program is what destroys the coach. Kelly will be out in 3 years. I'm more interested in Skip Holtz going to Cincy as Hammew alleges. He got an overmatched ECU team to beat Houston for a title. He might make some noise in Cincy or anywhere else he goes. Especially since he has ESPN pub on his side due to Dr. Lou.Comment -

#40I say it depends on who he gets as his assistants. He sure has to improve that defense which has been horrible the past few years. I don't know about this but he sure has been successful everywhere he has gone before so he might do well there. It just depends on how he does it there. He does have the chance to get some talent though.Comment -

#41It is the Notre Dame fotball philosophy to be high scoring. High scoring teams generate interest in the program, both from a viewing audience point of view, and a potential players point of view. Now certainly a defense has to be able to hold the opposition to a reasonable amount of points in order to win, but do not expect to see Notre Dame todevelop a Florida or Alabama like defense. Notre Dame knows that it has to get back on track first and formost. The huge defensive improvment can wait for a year or two. The Irish lose a lot on offense next year. They have to produce offensively to keep any interest in the program alive.Comment -

#42Notre Dame just isn't the powerhouse it used to be. Maybe it is just harder to have a dynasty these days. Whatever
it is, I just hope they can turn their program around with this new caoch.Comment -

#44Reports here out of Houston have suggested that the Univ. of Cincinnati have contacted the Univ. of Houston for permission to talk to UH head coach Kevin Sumlin. Sumlin has turned our program around here at UH and alot of us here in Houston are skeptical that he will stay. Stay tuned...Comment -

#45I think the important this for Cincinnati is not to pull a bonehead move like West Virginia did. Rodriguez left them before a BCS Bowl game, so then Assistant Coach Stewart took over. West Virginia played a great game, and won it. People were so impressed with Stewart, they named him head coach. Now look what they have. If Cincinnati does not fill the vacancy before the Sugar Bowl, they should not let the results of one game dictate who their next HC should be.Comment -

#48I dont think Michigan's program just wants to get to a bowl. They want to be competitive with Ohio St. again. They want to be up there in the top 25 again. They want to be a national powerhouse they once used to be. Rodriguez's team in 2008 was 9th in the Big Ten, in 2009 they were last. A 3-9 and 5-7 record just wont cut it at a school like MichiganComment -

#49That will take 2 more years for Michigan, and everyone knows it. No one expects Michigan to challenge for the Big 10 title next year. No one expects them to beat Ohio State next year in Columbus. The earliest that you can expect something like that to happen is in 2011.Comment -

#50The last 2 years the team was under Lloyd Carr they were 11-2 and 9-4. When they hired Rodriguez they hired a coach that was supposed to take this team to the next level. He has failed to do so after 2 years. Thats my reason for saying his days are numbered.Comment -

#53In my opinion Kelly just went from being a coach that had everything going for him in Cincy (not to forget the conference he was in was a BCS conference) to take a job that is an instant toilet bowl. He says its a dream job? Maybe about 30 years ago. This job is a resume killer. Notre Dame is not a power and probably will never be the power it once was. Kelly will coach 3 years go a couple games over .500 and be forced out. Notre Dame can't recruit with other top schools because they have too high of academic standards and the fact that Notre Dame isn't even in a conference. They play a brutal schedule every season and then on top of that Notre Dame nation still have the same winning standards as they did decades ago, which is completely stupid because they are a nothing now. I mean do these people understand they are the only ones who think this program is anything?
I feel sorry for the guy, saying all the right things and acting all tough going to ND. Only to find out that he is going to be put in an impossible situation with standards and actuality. His first season is going to be pathetic as the only 2 good players on his team are leaving now. If he gets bowl eligible next season with that defense he is getting will be a miracle yet even if he accomplishes that ND nation will already want his head because they aren't in the national championship picture, although they haven't been in that situation for God knows how long now. This will turn out about as good as Rich Rod turned out for Michigan. With the expecations ND has they will have to hire Jesus himself to coach until they realize ND is just another college football program.Comment -

#54Kelly sure sounded good though, it depends on what ND has in talent. I do not think they get the best players and not enough freedom at USC for the brothers to run wild.Comment -

FANTASTIC HIRE. Congratulations Irish fans. It's been a long wait. ND will win 11 games in 2010 for sure.
