ESPN has them projected as going to the GMAC bowl in Mobile against Central Michigan... I'm sure that bowl would be thrilled to take them over previous games (Tulsa/Ball State last year) and I can't see a program ever turning down a bowl invite...

they will not turn down a bowl. fun time to party even if it's a shitty bowl and money for the program. also provides the juniors and seniors a chance to showcase themselves on primetime for the nation.
no reason to ever turn down a bowl game

Would be stupid for the current players to play in a bowl. The bowl they get won't be very prestigious so they will be playing for more or less nothing. Some of thee players have pro careers ahead of them so why risk playing in a midlevel or lower bowl and risk injury. If I am a player I am voting HELL NO.

The reason to play in a bowl is for a month of extra practice
If you aren't in a bowl game you can no longer practice

and as a former college player I will say that you don't WANT to practice. Practice sucks...its boring its long and in South Bend it will start to get cold.

I think they would be best off declining. All it will do is just keep them in the media that much longer and right now this team needs to lay low and regroup.

Christ, this is a major reason why I can't stand this bastard alter boy loving school. They win 6 games in the cream puff league, then get to go to a bowl game. The ONLY reason they get an invitation, is because the bowl selectors know that they will bring in the money. That's it, so yes of course they will go to a bowl somewhere, hell even if they didn't meet the bare minumum, the NCAA would probably grant an exemption to the school.

Well thats not what is in question....of course they will get an invite to a bowl. The question is if they will accept the invitation and reports say right now its up to the players since they do not have a head coach.

What planet are you from? It is never up to the players, it will be up to the dude in charge of sports at Notre Dame. I say when they get a bid from a bowl, or probably multiple bowls, they will take the money as usual. Compensation will ALWAYS dictate the actions of people. The players are not compensated, so they will have no say in the matter.

Go to the Dutchboy Slow Drying Paint Bowl against two teams from the Big 10. Combine Purdue and Wisconsin and have Notre Dame vs. the Purconsin Badgemakers. I might watch the bowl game then.

Actually, there's a possibility of a rematch from last year with Hawaii now that they have 6 wins as well.

Pal...start reading..it is up to the players. ND doesn't need money...they could care less about the change they will get by playing in a shit bowl. In this case the Players will ultimately decide.

No. Let the seniors try and go out on a winning note. Say what you want about Notre Dame, but they are a fun team to watch with Clausen and those 2 great WRs

I bet they will accept the Little Caesar's Pizza bowl in Michigan. One more chance for the seniors to impress scouts and go out on top.

If one of the following happens, they might not get the opportunity to decline the bowl bid.
- Hawai'i beats Wisconsin
(4-1 odds, but there is life here seeing how Wisconsin is 1-3 ATS on the road this year)
- The Pac-10 gets two teams into the BCS
(11-1 odds, need 9-3 #18 USC to jump 4 spots in the polls, meaning ECU, Clemson, Cincy, USC, and Oregon win SU next week + USC is 3 spots ahead of Miami-FL in the CPU polls AND is selected over Boise State by the Fiesta)
Both scenarios are extremely unlikely, but neither are out of the picture.

If even all of the above happened as described by goblue12----the International Bowl can still extend ND an invite because of their Big East tie in.

I think they'll decline a minor bowl bid. They have in the past, and Notre Dame football is not about accepting paltry sums for a minor bowl game.
Unless there is major turmoil, Notre Dame will be at home this December.

TOugh call, but they should take a bowl game:
1. so they can lengthen the season and evaluate players; especially if they name a new coach and he can particpate.
2. the bowl will showcase Claussen, increase his exposure for NFL draft, demonstrate the "positives" of the ND program!
