One thing that really disturbs me about Christians is, very few of them have actually read the bible. I don't consider myself an expert on the bible by any means but I think I've read more of it than 90% of the Christians that I have ever met. They wrote stories based partially on what had been told to them (and subsequently changed on each retelling) and partially on what the wanted people to believe. Stale, not exactly...You were right earlier in saying that many people have felt empowered, called or whathaveyou by God to murder and do many other horrible things. That has happened over and over again with many different religions...

People become Zealots over a cause/Religion that has been handed down to them by the previous generations....However, what does not happen, what will almost never happen in any real sense is for people to make up a religion that they are then so readily ready to die for with nothing to gain...Maybe if they themselves were the David Kouresh, but nobody makes up a story about a David Kouresh to then have to die for that fabrication.

These first disciples of Jesus - who knew him - died for their beliefs....People do not do that for things they made up....Their Great-great -Grandkids may, based on what was told to them, but not the originators.
