I say pay at least some each week and explain to him that you will pay him off and most are willing to do that. I know a guy that got behind like that and finally he paid the bookie off. It works best to do it that way. That is why I like the online books because then you can go by with your budget and you don't owe anybody if you lose it.

I could not agree more with Burt..........if you are a local agent or bookie and had a lot of clients then some stiffing has to be all part of this business. If you had a good thing set up why would you jeopardize all this by pissing off the wrong person. All the guy who cant pay would have to do is call the police or feds or even file a complaint a say you were threatened. Think your bookie would like to discuss his business in court.

I agree a person should pay when he loses but sometimes that may not be possible. Bookies have to know this is part of the business they are getting into. Look at all the banks and financial institutions that have lost $$$$$$ lending to people that now cant pay them back. I had a friend who owed 10k to a bookie a few years back. he enrolled in to gamblers anonymous, and they told him not to pay off any of the debt. I believe they also took all the information he had on the bookie involved to help protect him. In the end, nothing happened to him and he never pay it back. This is just one example though, your results may very well be diferent, but it is an option. It's a slimy way out and isn't without risks, but gambling is a slimy business. the safest way out is to pay your 1k if you have it, be done with it, and go back to wagering with a legit offshore book that is far less life threatening or, better yet in your case, not at all.

either way, you probably shouldn't be gambling anymore, at least not in the amount that you have been, if you cant afford to lose it. best equation I was ever taught in gambling. set a total amount you can lose, and make your individual bets about 5% of that total. never more than 10%. that way when you're winning, your units will go up, and when you're losing, they'll go down. its a good way to survive the season, at any rate.
