Bread,
Honestly, I don't really want to do this, it's too time consuming. A member of SBR staff should do it, imho.

1st 10,000 points
2nd 6500 points
3rd 3000
4th 2000
5th 1000
6th 500
Good idea. You might want to consider giving fearless the points in advance so that he can save you the work of distributing them when the contest is over.

UTEOT said that he was voting for someone, but then he voted for someone else.
Entire poll should be dismantled.

I don't want to do this, it's fun but you wouldn't believe how much trouble it was last year. Actually, my only goal was to get this kind of poll done correctly once in my life and look at the results, I think the results were incredibly accurate.

I overreacted. However, there were actually people who WERE actually calling for jjgold to be banned from last year's contest because he voted for himself when we did the automated votes. Can you believe that?
What I'm saying is, people make mistakes but it doesn't mean they should be banned and/or overly penalized for them.

I'm being totally honest, I was gonna do it this year only because no one else wanted to do it. I posted that a long time ago:

I counted the votes for the last poster of the year award, this one:

Nice one. Too bad it flew right over his head.

I've decided that if SBR is giving out points as prizes for this I'm not doing it. As soon as points are involved with this people will go nuts.
If there's no points involved with the contest and no one else wants to do it, I'll do it.
But, even without points some people were flipping out about the award. We had to change the rules several times but we got it right in the end. Here's an example (this is right on the money but there was tons of stress and work for me):

jj, 15 hrs into this, there were about 20 guys (i wont mention any names) that had 0 to 1 vote only..now they have from high 20's to mid 30's in votes..lol.. 12 hrs into this contest, 7 posters pm'ed me to tell me if i can go pls vote for them cause they had 1 vote only..(their vote) now these same posters have 25+ votes..lol
cocknblocker, who i never heard of has about 15 votes..lol
monkeyfocker, who no one knows has 25 votes, but no votes for donny juan or rjt, who are his buddies.
sportsgirl, who never posts here, has 30 votes. lol.. yeah, 30 votes from sportsgirl.. i can name 20 more like this that i dont even know that have 25+ votes.. how would these guys possibly get 25 votes.. no one ever sees them.
posters i have never heard of before, have 29 votes.. lol
tons of posters that had only 2 votes after 24 hrs, now have 28-36 votes.. 3 posters had 1 vote and 2 hrs later had 25 votes..
there are 4 posters i know of that had 2 votes at noon yesterday, and by 7 pm, they had over 25 votes.. lol
I love it.. it's actually cute.. i can't believe posters would go through all that work to just have more votes. i know off hand 12 posters who i can put my whole mortgage, and life savings that have cheated.. i won't mention who, but we know, jj.. jj, my hand to god, i did NOT cheat at all. my votes were legitimate, not even 1 vote of mine was cheated.. and i'm sure so were yours..
i just want to say that of my 27 votes of you actual posters that voted for me,, i really wanna say thank you and i appreciate it, cause i swear to god, i did NOT create any fake accts..
is there a way willie bee can figure out how many new accts have been created at sbr in the last 36 hrs.. i will bet record #'s of sign ups..
this contest is good for the garbage.. it's not even real..

That's fantastic.
It all starts with the thread where people nominate the posters of the year (these are the manual votes):
Then the nominees for poster of the year are split into groups of 21 (the max amount allowed for a poll) everybody votes on the best posters from each group (these are the automated votes):
Last year everything stopped with the automated votes phase, this year we'd continue on and do the sweet 16 bracket contest. Also, last year we made a rule that only posters with 500 posts or more could vote in order to keep ghosts from voting (the other rule is that you can't vote for yourself).
Please let me know what you think about this process.
If the poster of the year award is going to be an official SBR thing, I think this suggestion may be a lot better idea than barring anyone who has less than 500 posts from voting (as I'm sure SBR doesn't want to exclude anyone):

Well maybe you should do it like House of Represantives is voted. The state of Vermont doesn't have the same amount of Reps like California. Maybe the post count number of each voter should be multiplied by a coefficient depending how many posts he/she has and then you get a weighted average.
eg. 500 posts is 1 vote X 0.5 = 0.5
5000 posts is 1 vote X 5 = 5
etc

Fearless, I think the lack of responses speaks volumes. Nobody cares.
