I just don't see much in boxing these days that really gets me excited. When I was younger, Boxing seemed to always be in the discussion and the PPV's highly looked forward to and often (monthly at least), but these days, Boxing is talked about very little and the heavyweight class is nothing. What happened? The potential is definitely there I believe, but where are the great fighters?
Why is Boxing so 'Not Exciting' these days? Or is it?

Mlb as well with Babe, Hank, Mays, Ripken, Pujols etc.
Same as football. Talent still there.
Boxing: Rocky, Louis, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Sugar Ray, Haggler, Hearns, Tyson, and now Klitschko?

#6Heavyweights are out of shape and no good athalete wants to box anymore. Thats why the heavyweights suck. People like Mayweather cant play hoop or baseball so they have no choice but boxing as a hole is going down and down quickly.
For one the way its run is a joke, no structure, people fight who they want instead of what the fans wanna see (for the most part) Which is why UFC is getting so big, Dana White is doing a damn good job.
But Boxing as a hole is no longer the #1 fighters in the world, put them in a one on one fight on the street with an MMA guy and they get there face bashed in (or probably arm broke)
It is going to be intresting to see where boxing ends up after Mayweather, Manny, Mosely are gone.
My guess once they leave the sport, its the beggining of the end.
Only hope now is some buff heavyweight who comes along and starts knocking everyone out. Thats what the people wanna seeShut your mouth when you talk to Me!Comment -

#7All the posts so far have been good. Lot of problems.
I still enjoy the fights at times, but I would add that HBO has tons of money to spend on boxing and they seem to spend most of it on Golden Boy productions, even when the fights they purchase aren't that good.Comment -

#8boxing is finished. it is just too slow of a sport. mma is violent but in a controlled way. boxing now is either too clutch and grabby or just not interesting.
mma will take over from boxing once it really goes global. mma in olympics, boxing out -will not happen and that will be only thing that keeps boxing alive for now.Comment -

#9I have to disagree with you guys...
Boxing has its flaws...
the HW division is a joke...
but you still have fighters like Manny Pacquiao who always come's full throttle...
And the best fight this year, in any combat sport has to be Juan Marquez vs Juan Diaz. Styles make fights...and this fight demonstrated just this.
And with Floyd Mayweather...as much as a I dislike him...he's one of the greatest boxers in the past century.
And this November...Pacman vs Cotto...that's going to be brutalComment -

#10Boxing is just nowhere near as entertaining as MMA..and I agree with some of whats said above re: horrible decisions (obviously the judges are being bought, I dont care what anyone says) MMA is faster, more skilled, more brutal and the kids these days love that. I have (had been) a boxing fan for many many too many years,,,,MMA is the REAL DEAL..I called it 5 yrs ago,,BOXING IS DEAD (with the exception of a couple of superfights)Comment -

#11Although noone has answered you directly, I will.
Boxing is suffering for several reasons and MMA does have a lot to do with it. However fixed fights, politics and lackluster names (for the most part) have taken a huge toll.
I also find it hilarious that the discussion of Boxing vs. MMA is powerful enough to destroy a family. Everyone........calm down.Comment -

#14Boxing would be suffering without MMA or UFC.
The only time they do a promotion for fights is when Delahoya pumps it all up, and then you wait months to see him fight Manny and the PRODUCT sucks!!!!
Its a joke to wait that long and get that type of result. Boxing is doing it to themselves, Id rather watch WWF/E whatever you wanna call it.

#16It's all subjective but MMA bores the shit out of me. Just way too much of one man lying on top of another man with very little clothing on. I'd love MMA if I was a chick.
Then again, there is so much wrong with boxing that I don't think anyone knows where to begin. Maybe boxing is just going through a valley and a peak is 5-7 years away.Comment -

#17Not many household names in boxing anymore. Plus compared to the UFC, Boxing is not exciting anymore. You can watch your favorite MMA fighter fight 2-3 times a year. Sometimes you may see your favorite boxer maybe fight once a year. Robyn hit it right on the head as to why boxing is suffering. I haven't ordered a boxing pay per view since 1998. I order 5-6 UFC's a year because the sport is marketed really well and you know the fighters real well. The only gripe I have with the UFC is they should build up there fighters a little more before putting them in the main event. For example I would of like to seen Shogun fight at least one more fight before getting a shot at Machida. That said the UFC kicks ass and boxing is dying a fast death. Boxing has no one to blame but themselves.Comment -

#20tons of talent between 130-147...the general public just doesnt pay much attention...there are tons of great fights...you just have to know who you are watching
im headed out to vegas for pac/cotto...2nd time out there this year for a pac fight...pac/hatton was on my birthday...had a great time...im a diehard boxing fan though....like illmatick said...super 6 tourney is gonna be dope...pavlik/williams in december too(i was at mohegan when paul knocked quintana the **** out in their rematch...it was beauiful)
as much shit as floyd takes from the diehard boxing fans about taking challenges(which i dont agree with...but thats a whole 'nother argument for another day)...what hes done for the sport has been great as far as crossover appeal....with oscar taking a back seat...the sport needed a new face...and he went on dancing with the stars....wwe...got that nascar/budweiser audience...and hes a star...gone were the days where you could watch a sitcom like webster and see somebody like sugar ray make a guest apperance....Comment -

its really a silly question...its a cycle...a current fighter will break through and emerge...and some prospects will rise to stardom....not to mention hbo has drastically cut back the number of ppv cards...after pac/cotto...that will have been, what, 3 ppv cards this year...thats pretty scaled back...even without a host of ppv cards the money is still thereComment -

#27Boxing is actually better right now than it has been in years. Sure the heavyweight division has been pretty weak since Lennox Lewis retired, now there are just the Klitschko brothers fighting mostly inferior opponents. However there is a good amount of talent in the middle and welterweight divisions. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back and looks better than ever. Manny Pacquiao has quicker hand speed than has been seen in a long time. Hopefully we will see Mayweather Jr. vs Pacquiao in the near future. Shane Mosley is still a force to be reckoned with, as are Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, Victor Ortiz, Kelly Pavlik, Juan Diaz, and a few other fighters I can't think of right now.
The thing about boxing is that you really have to have HBO and Showtime to follow it closely. Simply watching the few major PPV's each year just isn't enough to keep up on the sport. I strongly prefer boxing over MMA, and it pisses me off that there are 4 bars/restaurants near my house that show every UFC fight but not one of them show any of the boxing PPV's. This is one of the advantages of HBO however as they show every boxing PPV main event the following Saturday night.Comment -

#28Lack of marquee fighters and matchups is all.
Back in the day whenever Tyson got in the ring it was an instant draw. De La Hoya is/was an instant draw also. If he got in the ring again he will draw well especially with the bored housewives and horny teens.
But what everyone wants to see is Pac-Man vs Mayweather. It will set PPV records that MMA will never even come close to.Comment -

#29in the old days the champ would fight some tv fights and then have a super fight (close circuit back then), when i was younger you knew who the champions were, boom boom mancini, hagler, macho camcho, heck i even knew the wba heavyweight champ, mike weaver and that was when i was 9,, mma is ok,, but if brock lesnar was really that good of a puncher bob arum would have given him 50 million just to sign a contract with his promotions, he could have had a bunch of dud fights and had 100 million in his pocket by know,Comment -
