Have you ever seen some of the lineman when they get drafted? I forget the one dudes name but he was out fishing with his dad and he was a LOCK for 1st rounder. That is a true man right there... The NFL draft system is pretty much set in place. Each pick gets less than the previous for about the first round. THe whole thing is way too skewed towards the tops picks (which perhaps explains moves, in the current enconomy, like the dumbass broncos trading their first round pick next year (which surely should be top 10) for a 2nd this year (1st pick in 2nd), the cost difference is substantial (like 40million guaranteed vs 3) which as a fan seems absurd, but it will save them a lot of cash). The point being, the difference in what the 49ers offer and what Crabetree wants isnt tremendous, but if the team were to give in it would break down the whole system.
Sure everyone thinks he should be much better than the idiot the Raiders drafted, but so what, he tested positive for pot (irrelevant if you ask me, but some people care) he fell a bit. Take what it is and move on. As far as I can tell he won't do better next year under any possibility. Either the 49ers trade his rights, which won't get him a better deal, or he goes back in the draft where he probably falls further -- and he is a year older, which is a year of earnings.
