I kind of knew the deal was sealed when Lamont promised Hurley to be the highest paid college coach in the nation.
I'm probably going to see a ticket price hike next season, but it's worth it.
What're you guys drinking?
The first round is on your pal Nasher.

6 years in LA for $68m($2m he would owe Uconn if he went) vs 6 years at Uconn for $32m. If it was $32m vs $100m it gets to be a tougher decision.Comment -

#79I just heard where apparently 70 million in California ends up being a little more than 30 million after California taxes are factored in. Don’t know if that’s true but if so 45 million in Connecticut is probably as much or more net money.
Glad for college basketball and UConn that he stayed.Comment -

If I had known that's all they were offering, I wouldn't think for a second that he'd leave UConn. How could Pelinka (or I guess it's more Jeanie) even think that? Completely out of touchComment -

it is true Uncle Sam fed takes a ton of our money and then CA comes in and takes a lot.
i suspect someone making $70M who is not able to shelter any of it will likely pay ~45% give or take in taxes at that pay level when you factor in FD and CA combined.
this is a lousy state to live in for taxes.

#85The max CA tax bracket is ~14% I believe. If you don't live here 6 months and 1 day, you can establish residence in another state. Any tax attorney with half a brain can figure out how to get around that.
The rumor here is that his wife isn't a fan of So Cal. I get that. I once turned down a move to Chicago that would have sealed my career in corporate America. Dodged a bullet there.
The Lakers job isn't for everyone. Hurley has an opportunity to 3 peat. I'm sure the NETS will be calling next year.Comment -

Very nice country, the first time I was out there I commented to my friend "It's like a different country out here"
I always made a point to get to Lake Tahoe every time out.
I love that Nevada region too.
I used to get out there one a year up to 2019, then COVID19 in 2020 hit.
Then SF went from a dumpster fire to a towering inferno.
I told her "You know what we call Newark NJ here in the northeast"?
"Oakland east".
COVID changed my life for the better.
The CIO of the company where I worked set us up with the resources to work at home remotely.
Ask me if I miss playing bumper cars on that clusterfuck of a death trap that is I-95.
Not!
What, give up earning a living working at home in my jockey shorts for that?Comment -

I truly believe in "Strike while the Iron's hot" thinking. His teams probably won't ever be as good as the L2 years. So, his IQ is inflated by 20 points right now.
Chance to coach one of the two Name Franchises in the league. I'm serious about the wife, let her stay in CT. The $$ would be insane, but more importantly it's a chance to coach the fukin LAKERS.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#95Jerry Buss is dead and so is the Lakers mystique. I don't blame Hurley at all for staying at Uconn over dealing with the insufferable Leturd James. Why would he leave a college powerhouse with a chance to 3peat to "coach" a team where a player runs the show?Comment -

It seems more and more like Hurley was just using the Lakers for leverage which if that was the case, then I guess Lakers actually did well to not offer $100+ million although it's still just not a good look overall for them to miss on supposedly their #1 target and whoever they hire will be seen as the backup choice, not to mention AGAIN looking like a cheap, penny-pinching franchise. Just terrible optics for them all aroundComment -

Lakers tried to pull the same shit with Coach K years ago.
Didn't end well for the Lakers.
On the surface it might look like Hurley was playing LA off of Connecticut, which is a load of poop, that's not who he is.
He received an enticing offer from LA, he flew out there just to investigate the offer, wouldn't anybody at least listen to what they had to say.
I would.
This confirms what I was thinking all along.
