Lakers are making a big play in trying to Dan Hurley out of UConn. Can they do it? Should he even go to NBA? Most highly successful colleges coaches do usually fair well when going to NBA.

#2Who the hell wants that headache? He will inherit Lebrons kid too and by January they will be talking buyout. That said- he may be the guy to get the right things done here:
1. Fire Pelinka. Kobe is dead.
2. Ship Lebron as far away from LA as possible.Comment -

#4Hurley would be a home run hire. No possible way you can fire Pelinka if he pulls this offComment -

Dude
let me course-correct you, please.
this is clickbait from you - he has not accepted the job yet. they are in talks but he has not accepted it.
your thread title is mels
there is a great chance he is just using the offer to get a better contract out of UConn.
last, your bolded statement above should read Most highly successful colleges coaches do NOT usually fair well when going to NBA.

LeBron would get smoked as a coach.
i am not a hater, we just all know in LA that he runs the team.
one title, awesome.
the rest of it? embarrassing outside of last year's run to the WCF.Comment -

#10I’m not a hater either. One of my favorite players. He has been a great player… I just think he would have more titles if he let the coach and GM do their jobs without him and his agent always meddling.Comment -

#12There's a lot going on with this announcement. Woj vs Shams battle for the accurate Lakers info is classic. If Rich Paul has been feeding Shams and it turns out to be inaccurate, this might be a subtle hint to LeBron from the Lakers that he should move on. **crosses fingers**Comment -

that could have been right, until it was wrong.
the lakers have been looking at lots of coaches, including Budholzer.
it does not mean he was right or wrong and does not have good sources.Comment -

that is Homie1975 sources talking, as in me myself and I.
i believe he leverages this news to get a HUGE extension and salary at UCONN.

#20I can’t believe Lakers would still want LeBron:
In addition to hiring their next head coach, the Lakers are hoping to keep LeBron James. He has a $51.4 million player option for next season, but he could potentially sign a three-year deal worth up to $162 million with the Lakers if he opts out.Comment -

If LeBron leaves then Davis would ask to be traded. How are you going to field a competitive roster ?
His brand alone brings a lot of money to a franchise whose owners don't have the deepest pocketsComment -

#22Hurley would be foolish to take the Lakers job; the NBA is wide open now and the Lakers are hamstrung by a huge amount of cash for LeBron, who's still good but is no longer anywhere near a dominant player. He'll be exposed as a run-of-the-mill coach in no time.Comment -

#23Budenholzer was on the Lakers wishlist before he got hired by Phx.
he was on the sidelines for a year-plus.
everyone wanted to talk to him.
he did not want to report to lebron has his HC and GM so he went to phoenix.

#25And his son going NBA is about the biggest joke ever. The kid has done nothing and is nothing. The only reason he is even there is his dad probably sucked some people off. If Hurley wants to become a puppet in LeQueers shit show in L.A. he is an idiot.

#26Ya, Labrona achieved a Bubble League Championship
in Disney World.
Didn't Fauci hand out the trophy?
Throw in the NBA towel.
Can't see Hurley leaving UConn.
He's going to have a Dynasty.
How UConn's Dan Hurley engineered the best two-year run in modern college basketball history
Because of the increase of one-and-done players, the transfer portal and NIL money, it's nearly impossible to stay at the top of the college basketball mountaintop. The Huskies have found a way.

#28Been busy the past few days, just catching up to this thread.
I'll address this post in detail later tonight.
Two things.
a) The landscape of NCAA athletics has changed with NIL, and pay for play, and that's driving Danny, and other coaches insane.
b) Danny's goal in basketball has always been he wants to coach an NBA franchise.
I'll be very disappointed if he accepts the Laker gig, but if Buss and company are going to back up the Brinks truck with twenty pounds of hundred-dollar bills and set up the next ten Hurley generations for life, I can't fault him for that.
Money does not motivate Danny; NBA coaching is what he wants out of life.
The last repeat coach before Hurley, Billy Donovan, got frustrated with the NCAA, even though he's the head coach for the crappy Bulls, he's happy from what NBA insiders tell me.Comment -

#32this is a bad landing spot with an aging roster and no cap room.
bad spot for danny imo.
it could be a death knell.
if he truly cares about NBA coaching more than money, and is interested in success,
this LAL squad as currently structured with Lebron as GM and HC, is not where Danny
should go IMO
Danny say No.
be patient like Harbaugh was and you will get there.Comment -

I had a feeling that Andrea would be the deciding factor.
Lakers' Dan Hurley deal could top $100 million. He may stay at UConn (ctinsider.com)Comment -
