I usually leave decent tips when I go out to eat. Im really good to the lady who cuts my hair though. Im picky about my haircuts. And when im playing poker I only tip the dealer if the pot is worth it. People at them poker tables tip the dealer for everything its pointless.

Instead, they pay her $3 an hour plus tips. The problem I have is tipping the dealer at the Hold'em table. What the hell has he done for me? BuddyBear is right as usual, tipping is getting out of hand and costly.

Someone explain why the restaurant doesn't pay their waiters and waitresses an acceptable hourly wage to begin with. I know the answer: so the restaurant owner can make more money. It's a hell of a lot less expensive if the customers subsidize 75 percent of those salaries.

If you frequent any quality restaurant you should tip the waitor/maître d generously. It will ensure prompt service and reservation/good table fulfillment. It will also ensure that your food isn't spat in or rubbed on any genitalia. An acquittance of mine worked for a michelin star restaurant before changing careers and it was common practice amongst the wait staff to do this to miserly patrons. The same goes for vip/bottle service at any reputable club.

There are also the obvious benefits while dating/being in a relationship. If a woman sees you being tightfisted it is a turn off. You will be sure it is going to be pontificated about to all her friends as well which lessens your potential dating pool. Given the probability of relationships going sour this will only hurt you in the long run. Perhaps it is a non factor in difference circles but I am unaware if this is the case.

Finally, if you frequent any casino for a reasonable amount of time you will want to keep good relations with the people who work there. Casinos are insular and can become venomous which does not make for good working conditions. Your reputation carries forth to other places as well.

Of course when examined the various social mores do not make sense logically but that does not preclude people from accepting and following them. If you want to be a pariah that is a choice but at least acknowledge there are consequences. It is not as simple as "Why am I paying these people?"

Or in other words ya'll are some stingy mother fukkers.

If the tip goes towards the persons hourly wage then you are paying their hourly rate! The owner of the business is saving and should be paying the worker not the other way. Everyone should just tell whoever asks how much tips you made that it's not their business!

If pressured just say you report your tips on your tax form at the end of the year and if they must know contact the IRS......... If you report now you are being double taxed since at the end of the year you're being taxed again......

I tend to overtip since I used to work at a tipped position and know what its like to get stiffed by a bunch of cheap f**ks. If the service is bad I leave a small tip anyway.

how about tipping tellers at the racetrack after rarely hitting a winning ticket. i bought it from the self-serve machine so why tip someone to cash it.

Tipping is just a way that the place you are at can leverage the wages on the consumer. I dont mind tipping at all but its part of the cost before you go to a restaurant or get your hair cut or whatever. If you go on a cruise they give you envelopes on your last day and you have to tip all these different people. This is a way they can make the cruiser cheaper on the surface.

Go to a nice golf course and you will tip when you arrive, anything you get in the bar or on the course and then you will tip at the end to have your clubs cleaned. Its part of the cost of what you are doing. If you dont want to tip go to bad restaurant's, get your hair cut at crappy places and always drive to pick up your pizza instead of having it delivered. And dont ever think about a cruise ship
