need another gambling forum

I have to be honest. SBR forum is no longer the type of sports betting forum I'm looking for. If it was close, fine, but it's not remotely close. And it continues to move away from what I'm interested in. This is not a criticism of SBR as such, because they provide so much more than just a forum.

I'm critical of the direction of the forum, though. SBR has such a wealth of sharp insight, but instead of choosing that direction, it chose the exact opposite for the forum, which each year has become more dumbed down. I'm a long term poster at three forums, and the other two have class. This forum has zero class. Absolutely none. The people who stood for class have either left, or have become very quiet. What a missed opportunity at creating something meaningful.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything better out there. There is greater sincerity and kindness in the Statfox HOF, but the place is deserted. EOG and Therx are worse, and, in my opinion, are where SBR forum is heading; especially with soon-to-be-introduced points for posts. I'm slightly interested in JustDave's, but guys like Shrink, Mofome, and Raiders hang out there, which pretty much makes it impossible to share anything of value.

Example. A guy like EnglishMike has started out here on two separate occasions. Started out both times with intelligent posts about sports, but before long is drawn down by others and talks about nothing but his dick. That is what this forum does to people... Hey, like attracts like. Now the inmates are running the asylum. I believe they honestly think that appearing as dumb as humanly possible is being real.

SBR is A across the board, but the forum is F. So here we are. Vast internet, and not one place to exchange thoughts in a meaningful way about sports betting.

If I gave the impression, as Willie B suggested to me, that I hold people in disdain, this is not the case. I appreciate many people here, but I'm tired of the pointlessness. Sports betting and pointless chatter just don't go together for me. It's one or the other, but not both.

Just blowing off steam. I'm disappointed that SBR let the forum (not the think tank) drop down to the lowest common denominator. People were warning about this development a few years ago. I remember Mudcat saying something. Others did so as well, and many good posters have left. It really wasn't that hard to foresee. There is no point in naming names or pointing fingers. This is SBR's forum and this is their vision. I had expected something better, but I had no right to expect anything. Simple.

It has been ages since I came to SBRforum to post serious gambling info or expecting to find any. I just don't see it as that kind of forum at all.

As an original mod here and a professional gambler, I tried for a long time to coax it in that direction. I wanted a smart board that would attract smart people that would make me more money. I'm like that.

I was not alone by any means and we gave it a decent run for awhile but in retrospect, we didn't have a chance. It is all ancient history now.

Since I accepted that I am the outsider, I have been much happier. Betting-info-wise, my expectations here are zero - and I am seldom disappointed.




As for the thread topic of an alternate forum, I don't know of one. As much as members of different forums will bicker back and forth like the difference is night and day, they are all the same. At least as far as I have seen - and I have been around awhile.

I have settled on SBR as home base. I find the occasional OFF-TOPIC laugh here and once-in-a-blue-moon, some useful sportsbook info. I have enjoyed the Beat The Prick contest over the years.

But I will keep an eye on this thread and see if someone can surprise me.



I have people I talk to off the forum through different media ranging from PM's to face-to-face. The size of that network and the level of activity ebbs and flows.

It would be great if there were a board solely for real gambling info and knowledge. Unfortunately, most forums need more than 7 people to be sustainable.

i got a solution to your problem. a lot of reputable forums has exclusive sections. regular member cannot even access it unless they got approval from at least 3 current members. it is sort like a country club system.

i think sbr john should create a serious talk group for a selected few and you guys can pick and choose who you let in based on their posts in the main forum.

That's a great post, especially about accepting that your an "outsider" I feel the same way. I've never felt comfortable wth the other threads that seem to feature the same 9 or 10 guys.
