I think Leonard would still be the first option anyway. What I can't understand is the other way around. Why would Lebron want to play second fiddle to Leonard? If they win the title, I'd put Leonard as the strong favourite to win the Finals MVP. Or maybe Lebron actually doesn't care that much about that...

other than KD? Are you on meds? He was the 2nd best player in the league at the time. Add the #2 player to the #1 team and it is a big deal.
