How much capital to start a deli?

You are probably right about the start up costs for a deli being on the low end compared to other business ventures.Then you have those damn narco fascist health inspector rules where they make you have top notch stainless steel equipment for everything though.Any minor venture can be overwhelming these days.In the old days,some of your most famous companies got started whipping up batches of food in peoples basements and garages.Try doing that today.Then you have to have a great location.My guess is that if you can find a cheap hole in the wall location near alot of county,state and federal offices as well as maybe legal offices and health related medical places is your best bet for a big customer base.Most government secretaries get pear shaped asses working those easy government jobs where they get paid a hell of alot more than they are worth and need to buy health conscious sub sandwhiches.One local guy has been in a location like that for 25 years but about 10 years ago a Subway moved a block away.There must be enough of a customer base because the little independent guy is still in business.

That's OK. Start small. In today's busy lifestyle, people want to save time by getting everything under one roof. Traffic ain't like it used to be 25 yrs ago. I'm living in the same city -- used to be small, now it's like China...everyone scurrying around like rats.

Specialized shops don't stand much of a chance.
