#494Don't know how you could even trust a PO from a book??? You might get it on a severe downswing.
This is why books need more consistency when paying out Bitcoin. Can't watch your damn wallet 24/7 when you need to work and sleep. Ridiculous.Comment -

If you got funds sitting in a book, wait for bitcoin price to settle in somewhere....it always does, eventually
Assuming you just want dollars for dollars and don't care about holding coins, then it means you don't care what the price of bitcoin is when you cashout...you just want the price to be stable
Then request your payout and get it to whatever account you have to convert it to dollars as quickly as possible
Right now you see the wild price volatility. So just wait for it to settle in sideways price action.Comment -

#512I remember the train wreck from 18.5 all the way down to 11.8 and I had to get out. Then we went under 10k.... and then well... we know the story.
If it can hold above 10k. You'd consider the coin to be solid this time around.
If it can't hold.... don't know how you could estimate this coin to be anywhere above 20k+ ever?
The popularity should be RIGHT NOW. Definitely shouldn't be decreased... at all.
Let's see if it can hold around the 10k marker.Comment -

#517I've read that alt coins will strive when Bitcoin rises, and I've heard the opposite that Bitcoin has no bearing on alt prices.
When Bitcoin rose from $8,000 to $13,000 recently, so did just about everything else.
But even with Bitcoin holding somewhat steady, the alts and others are falling heavily.
So which is it???Comment -

#518I find it odd as well Hman. I'm not a trader at all... probably don't even know any angles.... but I can conclusively say... it doesn't make sense when Bitcoin climbs.... so does other ALT coins. When Bitcoin falls... other ALT coins do as well. But it's evident.Originally posted by HmanI've read that alt coins will strive when Bitcoin rises, and I've heard the opposite that Bitcoin has no bearing on alt prices.

It's hard to distinguish which ALT coin would do well on it's own... that's why when I do invest... it's only in Bitcoin. Everything is a hunch.
Bitcoin would be the only coin to survive on a total collapse. Again... just my opinion.Comment -

#520It depends a lot on if you value alts in usd or in sats. IMO nearly everyone should value alts sat-wise, with the main reasoning being that you are weighing your trades against the opportunity cost of simply leaving that value in bitcoin. Once you look at it that way, you'll see that alts generally perform poorly sat-wise during high btc volatility either up or down...and they tend to perform best when btc is on an extended stable usd price range.Originally posted by HmanI've read that alt coins will strive when Bitcoin rises, and I've heard the opposite that Bitcoin has no bearing on alt prices.

It's not 100% of the time or anything, it just tends to be this way more often than not - probably due to a myriad of different reasons. One major exception for many alts though has been the dec/jan ATHs for bitcoin, but that isn't exactly a very common situation lol.Comment -

#521A little over a year ago I wanted to convince myself that I should focus on bitcoins only . Following is from a blog I was writing at the time, April 10, 2018.
Crypto: 25 growth rates over 3 periods
In my previous post I looked at growth rates for the top 25 crypto currencies by using liner regression on their closing prices for the previous year. My intent was to justify my feeling that one ought to focus on bitcoin (BTC) only and ignore the other alternative coins. Unfortunately, that wasn’t supported by the growth rates over the past year. However, looking at the graph for BTC and VEN (Vechain) one can see both coins were dormant over the 1st six months of the year followed by rapid growth in the last quarter of 2017 and a rapid fall in the 1st quarter of 2018. I decided to do the same growth analysis for the last 2 quarters and the 1st quarter of 2018. The following link is to a chart containing the growth rates.
The coins with a growth rate greater than BTC in each period are shaded in yellow. The coin identifiers that are shaded in yellow are those with growth rates exceeding BTC in all 3 periods.
The fact that 5 of the 25 coins had growth rates better than BTC causes me to pause. I think I’ll need to take a more detailed look at these.
Ironically, I'm in the process of updating the studies again with data since then. I hope I can justify focusing on BTC only. We'll see.Comment -
