#387Bigday heading home
Minnesota Bound
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 35 minutes ago
Good evening, #teamAndy:
Today the team has been working diligently on a medical transport back to MN! The medical team has agreed that Andy is stable enough to be airlifted to his home state and receive treatment. We are praying for a smooth transfer tomorrow so that we can be back in our home state to continue our healing journey. We have a long recovery road ahead of us (there is no doubt we can do it) AND we are so excited to be surrounded by our support system.
Thank you to all who sent care packages out to us, prayed, brought food for our family to eat, mowed our lawn, reached out to let us know you care, etc. We are so luck to have all of you on our side and praying for us.Comment -

#395Praying for a safe, uneventful trip. Even 2 nights ago I couldn’t fathom Bigday returning home by the end of the week. Such an incredible development.
Props to Mindy for getting insurance to cover most of the travel costs. Dealing with insurance companies on a daily basis I’m surprised they authorized this. Congrats on that win, it is huge.Comment -

Lift off fees, Jet A fuel, critical care monitoring on an airplane halfway across the US is so fukking expensive.
And talk to Chicka in a month or two, it will be soooo worth it
Very happy for the Mcbride fam that things are better than they were a week ago, trending positively and going home. Gets my eyes wet a little bit all you have been through, Mindy. Hope only good things for you all going forward. Muah.Comment -

#405MN Ground- WE ARE HERE!
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 2 minutes ago
Never have I ever been so happy to land on MN ground as I was today in the 3 o'clock hour.
This morning just before 9am Las Vegas time a team arrived to UMC Intensive Care Unit to begin the transport for Andy. The lines were tangled, his oxygen levels were a little lower, and I was a mess as I tried to help the team. There was a part of me thinking this wasn't going to happen today. I watched the doctors and nurses line the hallway and wish us good luck as we began to exit. Soji (charge nurse) stepped out and gave me a hug, I held my tears as I tried to remain calm and brave for Andy. Although I was so happy to be leaving Las Vegas there was this part of me that was anxious for all the unknowns that lie ahead.
Outside of UMC main entrance the two air ambulance nurses and I boarded the ambulance and took off to a Las Vegas airport. As we were getting situated I was told the flight would be 2 hours 50 minutes and there was not a bathroom on board so try and go now if needed. The air ambulance plane was staffed with two pilots, 2 air ambulance nurses, Andy and myself. There was not a bit of spare space in the plane and it was hot, sticky and tight. The small plane arrived at the St. Paul airport where we were met by an ambulance that transported us to Regions Hospital. Upon arriving in our new space I was greeted by a familiar face that I had not seen in nearly 20 years! One of our nurses and I graduated high school together! Needless to say they jumped right in, changing his lines, bathing him and reading through his massive chart that was sent with. We are currently working on stabilizing his blood pressure and getting accustomed to the new space.Comment -

#41324 hours in MN
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 21 minutes ago
Wow, a lot has happened in the 24 hours since we landed in MN ok maybe 30 hours. #TeamAndy were able to get his blood pressure under control with medication, his oxygen levels continued to remain low. The team completed metanebs (The MetaNebSystem is indicated for the mobilization of secretions, lung expansion therapy, the treatment and prevention of pulmonary atelectasis, and has the ability to provide supplemental oxygen when used with compressed oxygen.) which showed some improvements and then his oxygen levels would drop. The medical team then completed a stat chest x-ray followed by a bronchoscopy (Bronchoscopy is a procedure that looks inside the lung airways. It involves inserting a bronchoscope tube, with its light and small camera, through your nose or mouth, down your throat into your trachea, or windpipe, and to the bronchi and bronchioles of your lungs.) in order to see if there was blockage. They did suction out a couple areas but they did not feel that was the cause of the oxygen level dropping. The team followed up quickly with a echocardiogram on the bedside. (An echocardiogram (echo) is a test that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to make pictures of your heart.) which showed his heart was doing well (which was great after we had heard it was healing from the original in Las Vegas). The ICU team decided to begin a protocol that would inject medication into her ventilator and he could breath, much like a neb treatment. The doctor said it typically works for 30% of people... good news, Andy must be in the 30 percentile because his oxygen numbers look good!!
Dave and Lynn (Andy's parents) were able to spend some time with Andy today which allowed me to go see our girls! I was welcomed with the best hugs! I spent the afternoon cheering on Elsa and the Irish 8U team with Maisie by my side (or on my lap!). God is good and we continue to pray for Andy's recovery.Comment -
