DaggerKobe, why did you bother changing your name to MartinBlank? We all know its you. Weren't you supposed to stop posting until at least July?

The worst thing about Obama's socialized medicine plan is we won't be able to properly assess the damage as it feeds off the excess productive capacity the private system leaves behind.

It will be years before we find out how bad Obama's plan really is as we won't find out until all of the surpluses created from the current system evaporates. Once that happens and the whole country realizes how awful socialized medicine really is, there will be very little we can do about it in the short term.

It will take YEARS to rebuild the system and make it what it is today.

What liberal democrats refuse to understand is our country has the highest quality medical care in the world which explains why all the elite of foreign countries come to the U.S. when they need specialized medical care.

The problem is that not everyone has the same access to the system currently in place.

Instead of forcing the entire middle class to take a huge step down in the quality of medical care they are currently receiving to benefit the lower 20%, the correct answer is to figure out a way to deal with the 20% who currently don't have insurance.

My solution would be to guarantee full access to the current medical care system to all people and their families as long as the primary financial provider is working a minimum of 40 hours per week.

There are definitely problems that need to be corrected as the minimum wage worker at McDonald's makes less money and receives much poorer medical coverage than some welfare receipent who refuses to contribute to society.

Lets give more to the minimum wage worker at McDonald's and less to the welfare receipent.

My recommendation to all those who can afford it is to join a concierge medical plan if and when Obama succeeds at socializing the medical care industry.

I am indeed fortunate that I will be able to financially provide the same high quality medical care for my family as we're currently receiving. I feel sorry for the majority of the middle class who won't be able to afford this option and will be stuck with the "county" type medical care that Obama's system is sure to provide.

If you want a glimpse of what will happen under Obama's proposed plan, go to an inner city and step into any Doctor's office. You will find a waiting room full of people WHO ARE MORE THAN WILLING to wait the entire day to see the Doctor when their children get the sniffles. They can do this because they have the free time. However, all of those who work at normal 40 hour/week jobs will NOT have the time to wait and their families will wind up NOT getting the medical care when they really need it.

Now here is where it gets humorous.

Andy here thinks the USA has the highest quality medical care in the world.

I love how he has decided to ignore some very simple data.

The United State is currently ranked 33rd in infant mortality rate.

Every single European country that provides coverage to their citizenry is ranked ahead of the United State in infant mortality rates.

        Sweden is 4th
        Norway is 5th
        Switzerland is 9th
        Belgium is 11th
        Spain is 12th
        France is 13th
        Germany 14th
        Denmark 15th
        UK is 20

Other countries with better infant mortality rates than the US of A...

        Israel
        Slovenia
        Ireland
        Canada
        Cuba
        Italy
        Portugal

Oh yeah, we are just a beacon of quality care...too bad Americans can't afford it.

How much $ can be saved if we just eliminate the vig payed to insurance companies? I'm guessing 80%. That is, if healthcare was guaranteed and paid for by the public avoiding the middleman, we would spend a fraction we do now.
But, we cant do that. Why? Business controls govt. And there's nothing we like more than corporate welfare.
Very good point, eliminating the profit margin insurance companies add to the "true" premium would make health insurance much more affordable, I really feel this is closer to a workable answer, rather than free health insurance for all simply affordable health insurance for all.

Q: If socialized medicine is so bad, why are infant mortality rates higher in the U.S. than in other developed nations with government or single-payer health care?

A: U.S. infant mortality rates (deaths of infants <1 year of age per 1,000 live births) are sometimes cited as evidence of the failings of the U.S. system of health care delivery. Universal health care, it’s argued, is why babies do better in countries with socialized medicine.

But in fact, the main factors affecting early infant survival are birth weight and prematurity. The way that these factors are reported — and how such babies are treated statistically — tells a different story than what the numbers reveal.

Low birth weight infants are not counted against the “live birth” statistics for many countries reporting low infant mortality rates.

According to the way statistics are calculated in Canada, Germany, and Austria, a premature baby weighing <500g is not considered a living child.

But in the U.S., such very low birth weight babies are considered live births. The mortality rate of such babies — considered “unsalvageable” outside of the U.S. and therefore never alive — is extraordinarily high; up to 869 per 1,000 in the first month of life alone. This skews U.S. infant mortality statistics.

When Canada briefly registered an increased number of low weight babies previously omitted from statistical reporting, the infant mortality rose from 6.1 per 1,000 to 6.4 per thousand in just one year.

According to research done by Canada’s Bureau of Reproductive and Child Health, “Comparisons of infant mortality rates by place and time should be adjusted for the proportion of such live births, especially if the comparisons involve recent years.”

Norway boasts one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world. But when the main determinant of mortality — weight at birth — is factored in, Norway has no better survival rates than the United States.

Approximately 85% of Americans CAN AFFORD the highest quality medical care that the current system is providing. That number might be even higher when considering the fact that there are millions of younger people that are uninsured because they don't want to pay for medical insurance.

Anyone who honestly believes that government controlled medical care will improve the quality of medicine in the U.S. should NOT be allowed to participate in the voting process.

While Obama and the dems MIGHT figure out a way to throw a few free sheckels your way, you'll never have much of anything and thats the way it should be.

Sooner or later, conservatives will figure out a way to get rid of leeching socialist democrats.

Even though the dog is currently sick, I sure wouldn't want to be the flea.

The Republicans sure didn't vote that way in November, seems like losing half their life savings in the market last year due to an economic freefall and spending trillions of dollars on pointless wars is enough to turn those red states blue

For all the conservatives bitching about imaginary socialism when it came down to it the people who did the most asset redistribution were the stock brokers and CEOs, first they took half your life savings when the businesses collapsed then they took the half your tax dollars in welfare to keep them going after they collapsed, talk about getting double fuked, yet somehow the Republicans always blame Leroy the janitor for everything wrong with the country

Try getting cancer at 22 and see what your health insurance costs after that. 19k a year in health insurance is pretty tough to pull of at 23 years old.
