    This reminds me -

When was the last time England actually won the World Cup?

Back when they hosted it in the 60s and there were less teams to compete with...16 instead of 24

Time to win another one - after all they did invent the sport - I would expect a little more instead of the same mediocre performance you always get from them every 4 years.

"Just reading your post it's obvious you know absolutely nothing about cricket" - You

Stop being such a hypocrite all the time. Oh, wow, you played cricket for 20 years. What exactly does that mean? Anyone can play any sport, especially a dumb sport like Cricket. There's no athleticism to it at all like real baseball. If there is, you mean to tell me that India has some of the best athletes in the world??

Grow up, kid. You're pushing 50 and you're still talking garbage.

I love how this guy tries to show me how athletic cricket is but then shows me a video called One of the Best Cricket Catches Ever. That was it?

Okay, Gramps - I now know to take it easy on you. You're weak-minded, I mean just look at your reply...you go on a JJ diatribe.

          Grow up, son.

There are so many international competitions, ect and i think the motivation was not there for Spain. It was not some world cup game or anything close to that magnitude. I was actually just an like an exhibition to Spain. Is the USa getting better in soccer?? Of course we are and are we ready to win a world cup?? Welll not yet but we might see a day when we advance very far if our USA soccer programs keep working hard and more and more athletews pick up the sport.

no kidding. that attitude has been displayed over and over in this thread, mostly by the fools grasping for an excuse as to how Spain could have lost to the USA.

grasping at straws...with a twinge of jealousy and contempt thrown in.

englishmike, you opinion is no more valid than anyone else's. and deserves little respect due to your blathering in this thread.

Check the soccer threads to see if I make money and check the golf threads to see who's 60 Units up in two weeks.

If they were placed in the South America qualifiers they would be in the bottom 3 teams of the qualifiers. If they were placed in Europe qualifiers they would have a hard time beating Macedonia, Latvia and Azerbaijan. Sure it takes special skills to beat Grenada, Virgin Islands and Martinique.
I don't buy this. Every team wants to destroy the US in soccer. We dominate in every other sport so the world wants to keep soccer away from the US. Now we are starting to dominate in soccer.

Its not "if" pavy. It is reality. The US was ranked 14, probably going to rise now into the top 10.

I don't buy the tough schedule European stuff either. US soccer players play year round as well.

Come world cup time we will be the team to beat

Actually the US players playing in Europe are not the same as the European players in terms of minutes. Lets just compare the amount of minutes that Torres played for Liverpool compared to Altidore.

Torres (Spain): He played 7 games in Euro2008 in June, then he played 40 games in EPL for Liverpool, he played 12 Champions league games for Liverpool, he played 8 games in FA cup and League Cup for Liverpool, he played 4 World Cup qualifiers for Spain and a couple friendlies. Then he played in this Confedrations cup 4 games. So for the last 12 months he played 75 games with about 3 weeks vacation.

Altidore (USA): He was sitting on the bench of Villareal for the last 6 months and before that he played only a handful of games.

So if you don't believe fatigue and motivation is not a factor you have no idea what you are talking about. Liverpool pays Torres millions to score goals for them in England and Champions league. They would not risk him getting injured for a meanigless tournament.

I may not be a soccer expert, but it seems to me Spain did dominate this game. Was just an exceptional effort by the US goalie, could easily have been 5-2 Spain.

I would posit that you, sir, have no idea what you are talking about.

                          why compare the minutes?

did you even watch the game? Torres was all over the USA's final third, looking fresh and game. And he was chasing down long balls with gusto. And, also, btw, the top dogs at Liverpool had no ****ing say whatsoever about anything Torres did or does while he's on national team duty.

                          the excuses; keep them coming.

The Houston Rockets beat the Lakers 3 times with an inferior squad but the Lakers are NBA champions. If the USA plays Spain 7 times they will lose 6. Just because they got lucky and won the game yesterday it doesn't mean they are the better team. This is the beauty of soccer tournaments. It's like the NCAA basketball tourney. On any given day any team can cause an upset. That doesn't mean the best team always wins, especially on a meaningless tourney.
