Which states do we expect to move forward with gambling? What is the forecast for my state, Washington State?

Where will the places to place bets be? Inside of casinos like in vegas, or are these going to be whole in the wall places where you can place a bet at a counter like you would take out food?

Can we expect to see it in NBA/NFL/MLB arenas and stadiums?

What about if I live in or go to New Jersey?

You will be able to bet with a legal operator at Atlantic City casinos and the state's racetracks as soon as they are ready to go. Monmouth Park racetrack plans to be open for business within weeks of the Supreme Court ruling. Most operators will target football season to be up and running. Stay tuned.


I don't live in Nevada or New Jersey. When can I place a bet on a game?

It's going to depend on how quickly your state, if interested in sports betting, can pass legislation. Some states, such as Delaware and Pennsylvania, are ahead of the game with their legislation, but even those are probably months away from that translating into taking legal bets. And if your state has yet to introduce legislation, it could be quite a while before this happens for you.

Can I bet online and on my phone with a legal bookmaker?

Eventually. The majority of interested states plan to offer online and/or mobile wagering, and industry experts predict most bets will be placed online in the future. In New Jersey, existing brick-and-mortar locations will need some time to obtain software, install apps and establish procedures for the deposits and payouts. The process could take months.


How do the sports leagues feel about legalized sports wagering?

There is a divide among the leagues. The NBA and MLB are spearheading a state-by-state lobbying effort, supporting legislation to legalize sports betting as long as it includes certain stipulations beneficial to the sports leagues. The PGA Tour recently joined the NBA and MLB lobbying coalition, with the MLS and UFC among the other sports leagues that have spoken favorably about legalization. Before the Supreme Court ruling, the NFL, NHL and NCAA had remained mostly quiet on the issue. NCAA president Mark Emmert has openly discussed the potential for a carveout for college sports in any future betting legislation.
What do the NBA and MLB want?
They prefer a consistent set of regulations that provide sports governing bodies with the ability to restrict or prohibit betting on league events; data rights; and a percentage of the amount bet on league events paid by operators.
Will legalization lead to increased match-fixing and point-shaving scandals?
Only time will tell, but proponents -- including the NBA -- believe a legal, heavily regulated market overseen by licensed officials is the better approach to protecting the integrity of sport than the illegal market that has been serving most of the U.S. for the past quarter century.

I look at Amsterdam with the legalization of drugs and they have it regulated and under control. That's just one example..

Mostly though I HATE being forced by law to do these things - like wear a seat belt when riding in a car, wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, sign onto Obamacare or be fined, etc...

Most of these forced mindless regulations were brought into power by Liberals and Democrats. I hate it!!! Freedoms being taken away are the worst!!!

My dumb question. Foxwoods has already said there moving quickly to get a book operational. I live next state over. Could I get the sportsbook app right off
then just drive down highway til I get over Connecticut state line, stop at the first rest stop over state line and put my bets in from there?

1) CT still has some negotiating to do with Foxwoods/Mohegan on this matter. They disagree as to the amount of revenues to be shared.

2) Having sports gambling does not automatically mean mobile betting is allowed

3) If sports gambling is legalized and if they allow mobile bets then technically yes, you should be able to drive over state line and place your bets. HOWEVER it is not a perfect technology. Sometimes the nearest cell towers put you in the wrong state. I used to go to Reno every weekend but I could never get the mobile betting to work because the system always thought I was in California (even when I was trying to place the book from within the hotel itself).

Offshore betting never will be killed. Regulated soft books will restrict winning players. Asian books for instance don't. So JJ has a point when he says serious bettors need offshore books anyway, no matter how the legal situation in your country/state is.

In UK, France, Spain betting is legalized but regulated books kick you out after a couple of k of winnings. Even regulated locals do. It's for recreational players only. Serious bettors need books like SBO, IBC, Pinnacle because of obvious reasons.

We have too many dumb ass people in the US to allow them to do what they want. Which is why I don't mind some type of gun control. Too many dumb asses that shoot themselves in the foot. We have seat belt laws because when a dumb ass doesn't wear one and gets paralyzed because they were drunk or speeding, who do you think has to pay for their injuries and long term health?
