#141Very good to hear. You don't have any issues with your house? I heard they were evacuating Lake Conroe? I45 north is flooded in a lot of spots where people can't get to Dallas. I'm not sure about I10 East but I10 West is clear to San Antonio from midtown out.Comment -

#144No we're still good....I think...haven't been home since 9 this morning. They've been trying to control the water since yesterday. Our house if you're familiar with Montgomery off 105 we're tucked away in a little corner. If you're driving along 105 by Fajita Jacks and all of those spots on that side of the lake. If you remember the drought a few years back when the lake was super low...we had things reinforced by the deck and it would take another 3 or 4 foot rise to get over and then we have about 10 feet of grass to the house itself before it would get in so fingers crossed.Originally posted by Mac4LyfeVery good to hear. #146Yeah, that is the issue. They tried evacuating during Rita and the traffic jam last for days. More people died in their cars trying to evacuate than have so far sheltering in place.Originally posted by The KrakenA few years ago in Oklahoma, a pretty big tornado was rolling through the city. Weathermen told people to evacuate. Well, a bunch of people listened, highways were at a standstill, and a bunch of people caught in that traffic died.
A few months later, another tornado was about to hit and the weathermen changed their tunes really and told everyone to stay put and NOT to evacuate. They never apologized
Mr. Nina is wanting to shoot some looters. I may need Donk on auto dial.Comment -

#151Ahh the politics. Dems I heard are asking for 150 Billion in tax money to go on top of insurance and charity totals....estimates are far less so far but I just find it odd the same Dems were saying a few months ago if Trump asked for 10 billion for the wall that old people would die and Medicaid would not go out and kids on SNAP would starve but hey we've got 15x that to just throw now. I hate politics sometimes.Originally posted by rkelly110Well, so much for Trump shutting down the govt for his wall. That money and then some will have to go the Houston area.Comment -

#155Car is built to be flooded and will keep going even under water.. That's the purpose of the defender.. The AIR Intake is mounted high in the truck so the engine doesn't suck in water.. It also is sealed pretty well all around the vehicle and drains out well when flooded inside...Originally posted by jjgoldWhat was the purpose of that last video what were they trying to prove the car was getting flooded
The truck can go deep under water as long as the air intake pipe stays above water so the engine doesn't take in water.. You can see the intake pipe on the right front end of this Defender.. You can drive one of these right out of the flooded areas in Houston with no problem..

I was just thinking the same thing. A Suburban with 20's with Off-road suspension has probably the same depth as a Land Rover.Originally posted by RudyRuetiggerbro, you do not have 1 fukkin clue how high the water is if you are trying to stay under the air intake pipe
I would dare not even think my Suburban is He-Man in regards to flood waters. There are so many electronic gadgets around the engine... your vehicle would be toast. Juice isn't worth the squeeze.Comment -

#164There's some HUGE monster trucks on the roads evacuating people. I saw those huge trucks used to deice airplanes on the roads near me. I don't know how the hell they got over here? The National guard has some huge troop transport vehicles as well. One came down my street and asked how high the water was. I told him 6 feet and he didn't even bat an eye, they went barreling down the lake with ease. The grill on the back of that thing had to be 12 feet high. There's a lot of people in the city out there offering help. A lot of people have driven in from other places with boats and kayaks. It's amazing to see so many people out there helping others. A lot of pets being rescued and heartbreaking seeing how scared they are. There's been 12 looters reported thus far. 12, which is still 12 too many. Those folks will be in jail mandatory 180 days. I say hang them up by their toes for 48 hours.Originally posted by Cuse0323I'm curious why we don't see monster trucks blazing through the water. There's still a lot of stupid people putting themselves in harms way. People are itching to get outdoors because we've been stuck since Thursday but it is not safe. There's been 8 cars stuck in water on my street today. I even tried to turn a few people away and they still proceeded. One car drove right by another bigger car that was stuck thinking he could get through. The last one just got towed out of here. Stupid. Why are you on the roads??? The bayou above me is totally flooded and people are trying to cross on foot which is stupid. It is a raging river that someone is going to get killed?Comment -

#167Fast moving flood waters are a much different animal to crossing a slow river.Originally posted by JIBBBYCar is built to be flooded and will keep going even under water.. #169You take it slow and as soon as the water level hits the bottom of the front wind shield you chill.. The intake on the defender is at around 6 feet high from the looks of it..Originally posted by RudyRuetiggerbro, you do not have 1 fukkin clue how high the water is if you are trying to stay under the air intake pipe
I'd be more worried about driving and hitting objects under the water when driving on flooded streets.. Could hit a fire hydrant or even a parked car submerged.. I'd give it a shot in the Defender in flooded areas to get out of Dodge.. Hummer H1 not a bad idea either with a raised air intake.. The electric wiring are insulated in these trucks well, Defender and Hummer..
This Hummer H1 with the extended high intake went under water and cruising around just fine... Driver needs scuba gear though when going this deep.. Check...

#170That is true but I'm pretty sure these trucks that I mentioned above are heavy and stay grounded by design.... Gotta stay out of the raging waters though I agree.. #171This hurricane will be the costliest one in US history and only because it stalled out and dumped 50+ inches of rain over the same area.
The actual hurricane damage (wind and storm surge) was not that bad even in places like Rockport that took a direct hit from Cat 4.Comment -
