Craig Counsel Game 7 with the marlins, hits the sac fly in the bottom of the ninth to tie it.. then Edgar Renteria hits the single in the bottom of the 11th to bring in Counsel for the Win... Amazing year to be a fish fan..
another one for me is Michigan Beating Ohio State in 03 to go to the Rose bowl only to loose to Texas and Vince Young. I was their rushing the field when ohio state lost in the Big House.. and i was in Pasedina when Michigan blew the lead in the last 2 mins against Texas.. Yince Young was a stud and it was on display for the whole world that night... Steve Breston also had a career night that night.. destroying O.J. Simpson's Rose bowl records...

I will do this on games I have been to. When Bill Hassleman charged Mike Mussina and started a huge fight.
When Kevin Gross got tossed out of a game for having sand paper in his glove.

I was at every single game of the 1982 World Series. Willie Mcgee's catch was incredible. I was also at the game when Vince Colemans leg got rolled up in the tarp.

I have 3
1994 Stanley Cup final VAN/NYR (arguably the best final in decades) , the riots in Vancouver, Pavel Bure and Mark Messier !! WOW! When Vancouver beat Calgary in Game 7 in round 1 after being down 3 games to 1 and winning game 7 in OT, I was playing in a baseball tournament and they stopped the game and announced they had won over the PA, the whole place went nuts. We here high fiving the other team and jumping around like mental cases.
1992 when the Blue Jays won the world series.
The 1982 Canuck playoff run I will never forgot. That is when TOWEL POWER was invented!

I'll restrict this post to events that I personally experienced, although I've read about many events from before my time that certainly rival what I'm about to describe in this post. I generally have a hard time respecting the modern casual sports fan who doesn't know anything about the history of the sport he's watching. I'll also consider "biggest" to mean most significant, good or bad.
4/14/87 my first MLB game in Philadelphia. The Mother****ing Mets won and ended up sweeping the 3-game set, but at least I saw Schmidt hit a homer. I think it was the 490th of his career. I know he hit #500 later that season.
6/11/88 my first game at Yankee Stadium. Billy Martin was just five days away from getting fired for the last time. Rick Rhoden was in the starting lineup as the DH. Jay Buhner hit a grand slam to lead the Yankees over the Orioles, one of only three homers he hit as a Yankee before being traded for Ken Phelps. We sat in a Tier Box in section 13 or 15 overlooking first base. $8.00.
9/27/89 Cubbies clinch the NL East! My father and I were happy the mother****ing Mets wouldn't be playing in October, and we felt a lot of gratitude to the Cubs.
10/9/89 Cubs fall to Giants in 5 games. Cubs rallied to score a run in the 9th after I said I wanted to see Sandberg come to bat one more time. He ended up making the final out.
6/3/92 MJ hits six three pointers in the first half of Game 1 of the NBA finals
6/14/92 Bulls come back to clinch back-to-back World Championships to win Game 6 after trailing by 14 going to the 4th quarter.
6/2/93 Smith blocked, Smith, BLOCKED, SMITH - BLOCKED AGAIN!
6/4/93 NO NEW YORK, NO NEW YORK, NO!
6/20/93 Paxson three pointer in Phoenix!
8/13/93 Police announce the death of James Jordan. I was 14 years old and I felt like Michael Jordan was one of my best friends in the world. Obviously it wasn't nearly as horrible for me as it was for the Jordan family, but I was devastated.
3/26/94 My first trip to Chicago to see a Bulls game in Chicago Stadium. It was the Bulls' 4th game in 5 nights (an essential filter in any good NBA betting system) and they led by 12 at the half, but scored only 32 points in the second half. Scott Williams had a gorgeous block in the closing seconds to secure the win 90-88 over Reggie Miller at the Pacers. I spent most of the game in my seat watching the game. If I had it to do all over again, I would have explored the building much more.
3/28/94 My mother drove me past the outside of Chicago Stadium to see it one final time before flying back home. We stopped at Michael Jordan's restaurant for lunch and then headed to the airport.
4/24/94 Jeremy Roenick scored the last Blackhawks goal in Chicago Stadium to beat Toronto in Game 4 of the first round of the playoffs. This game wasn't on TV, so I had to listen on the radio, using my father's old AM-only radio that got ultra-sensitive reception from far away cities. It was a night game. Earlier in the day, the Bulls played their last regular season game at Chicago Stadium and lost to the Knicks.
4/28/94 Mike Gartner scored the last goal in Chicago Stadium history and Toronto won the game 1-0, winning the series in six games.
5/20/94 Last Bulls game in Chicago Stadium. Bulls won 93-79. Pippen dunked over Ewing. Since sometime in the fall of 1994, I've carried the same two quarters with me everywhere I go - one from 1993, the other from 1979.
5/22/94 **** Hue Hollins!
2/3/95 The wrecking ball makes it first impact on the walls of Chicago Stadium. Very sad day.
5/6/95 Thank you Reggie Miller for one of the best birthday presents I've ever received!
8/13/95 Mickey Mantle died, and eerie things happened to me that day that strangely mirrored some of the same events that I experienced two years earlier. It was surreal, and again, I had a rough time dealing with it.
10/23/96 Leyritz 3-run homer
10/24/96 Paul O'Neill running catch to end the game and the last game at Fulton County Stadium
10/26/96 Yankees win the World Series for the first time since I was born. Technically I existed when they beat the Dodgers in 1978 but I was still in the womb.
5/17/98 Beanie Baby Day at Yankee Stadium. David Wells faced 27 Twins and retired them all.
5/19/98 Tino. Benitez. FIGHT. Also of consequence, but having nothing to do with the game, I was sitting with my friend in Tier Reserve, Section 11, Row C, Seat 3, and I was thinking about the Bulls facing the Pacers in the playoffs. There was still lots of talk of the Yankees moving to the west side of Manhattan around that time, and it was only a month after the beam had fallen out of the upper deck. As I looked straight across the ballpark from my seat, over the mound, over shortstop, past left field, and beyond the escalator tower near Gate 2, I thought to myself, "If they at least build another ballpark in the Bronx, it might not be so terrible," not realizing until years later that while I was experiencing that thought, I was looking directly at the parcel of land where the monstrosity that has no business calling itself Yankee Stadium would be built approximately 10 years into the future. At the time, all I realized was that, "hey, that's kind of what the Bulls did, isn't it?"
5/31/98 Bulls beat Pacers in Game 7 of Eastern Conference Finals. This was my first game back as a full-fledged Bulls fan after being upset with them over the demolition of Chicago Stadium and Michael having changed his mind after he said he would never play a game in the United Center.
6/14/98 Bulls beat Utah in Game 6 to clinch their sixth NBA championship. The last 45 seconds looked like a complete reenactment of the last 45 seconds of the 6/20/93 game in Phoenix, except MJ took the last shot instead of a white guy. This happened after MJ stole the ball from Malone instead of the opposing white guy shooting up an air ball. Everything else was the same. The Bulls bench storming the court after the buzzer sounded was EXACTLY the game, even though all the players were different.
9/1/98 David Wells retires the first 20 Oakland A's he faces in what would have been an encore performance of his Perfect Game in May. It was the very beginning of my sophomore year in college and I was at the game with my new roommate, who to this day is my best friend. He wore a Bernie Williams batting practice jersey and a black cowboy hat that day (don't ask). After a few innings, I made him take off the jersey so I could wear it for good luck, and it was working. But when Jason Giambi came to bat in the 7th inning, my friend took his hat off, and before I could nudge him to put it back on, the ball was sailing over Knoblauch's head and dunking in for a hit to right field.
10/17/98 KNOBBY game tying home run
10/20/98 BROSIUS X2
10/21/98 Yankees conclude the greatest season of my life.
2/18/99 Date that will live in infamy. Roger Clemens became a Yankee, albeit in name only.
3/8/99 Joe DiMaggio died. I took this one hard as well. As much as I felt like I was losing a member of my family and I would have liked to see him continue living a healthy, happy life into his 90s, what bothered me the most was that I knew he would no longer be described as "The Greatest Living Ballplayer." People forget quickly, and now his place in history isn't as highly regarded as it should be and once was. I found it insulting that ESPN ranked DiMaggio #22 on its all-time list of athletes and they ranked Mays #8. I'm not taking anything away from Willie, but he was no DiMaggio, and the disparity between #8 and #22 is ridiculous.
4/10/99 My first game working as a peanut vendor at Yankee Stadium. It was fun while it lasted, 10 straight years, although the first year was unquestionably the best.
7/18/99 Yogi Berra Day. My grandfather's 88th birthday. Autographed tickets in section 8, that I'd purchased and were printed on May 12, Yogi's birthday. 27 batters, 88 pitches. The Yankees 90th game in a season in which they were trying to secure their 36th pennant and 25th World Championship - the catcher wearing #25, pitcher wearing #36. Combined with the small #5 on the left sleeve for DiMaggio, Cone's uniform number was 536, Mantle's career home run total. It was unquestionably the most magical day of my entire existence, in this lifetime or any other, past, present, and future. I cannot even begin to describe the experience in words. It did not occur on this plane of existence. That wouldn't have been possible. To call it the best day I'll ever experience is the understatement of my entire life.
10/26/99 KNOBBY game tying home run - The last game I worked selling pretzels in my first year working at Yankee Stadium. Chad Curtis two home runs. Yankees record in the games I worked in 1999 including two in the post-season: 25-11
10/27/99 Clemens dancing on the dugout after the Yankees won #25. 36 Pennants, 25 World Championships. Overall record in the World Series: 25-11 This one was for the Clipper. His birthday - November 25, written in Italian: 25/11.
6/4/2000 Lakers awesome comeback in Game 7 vs. Portland - kind of strange to see Phil Jackson and Scottie Pippen on opposite sides.
2000 Subway World Series - this one felt like work. I didn't enjoy a single minute of it until it was over. There was way too much at stake. I developed an ulcer in mid-september when the Yankees went on a streak in which they lost 16 of 19 (including the first playoff game in Oakland) to close out the regular season. I didn't start feeling better until the Saturday on which Game 6 would have been played. It was freezing cold in New York, and I was glad it was over. It was also cold the next day, and I was even more glad that El Duque didn't have to pitch in Game 7.
2001 World Series - I tried to be patriotic. That's all I'll say since the rest is off-topic. Undoubtedly the most traumatic event of my life.
6/11/03 I witnessed the last 3 no-hitters in Yankee Stadium history. The last one was kind of strange, LOL.
10/16/03 actually 12:16AM the following morning. Boone meant nothing to me. Mariano meant everything. That was the night I found out Willie Randolph and Lee Mazzilli were total assholes. Mariano was laying out crying, face down, on the pitcher's mound before Boone even touched the plate, and those pricks wouldn't leave him alone to have his moment of solitary reflection. ****ers. Also, Boone, Soriano, and Weaver made the whole experience relatively worthless by ****ing up the World Series.
10/13/04 Mariano flys back from Panama where he attended the funeral of cousins who were tragically killed in a swimming pool accident to close out Game 1 of the ALCS. Losing this series did not bother me at all, because it wasn't the World Series. I'm just glad Mariano got the save his first night back.
7/18/06 actually 12:38AM the following morning. Melky Cabrera game-winning home run in extra innings.
9/19/08 the last game I went to at Yankee Stadium with my father
9/21/08 last game at Yankee Stadium ever with my best friend who took his cowboy hat off his head 10 years and 20 days earlier
9/22/08 at 12:35AM walked out of Yankee Stadium for the last time
9/23/08 Red Sox win mathematically eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs - this is the moment that the New York Yankees ceased to exist as far as I'm concerned, because it guaranteed with absolute certainty there would be no more baseball played at Yankee Stadium.
4/12/09 Drove past Yankee Stadium and stopped the car on the southbound exit 6 ramp between the highway and the parking garage, where I could see the marquee on the first base side of the Stadium, although there was no message on it. Spent some time sitting there and said goodbye for the last time. I would have had a better view from the other side of the ramp going in the opposite direction, but I wanted to stop in a location where the monstrosity across the street wasn't visible. I will not drive on the highway past that area this year or next, at least until the entire Stadium is gone, and probably never again. I don't want to see part of it standing and part of it missing. Once it's all gone, I might occasionally drive past that area again when necessary, but I will never stop, never walk around the neighborhood, certainly never set foot in the House of Ruthlessness across the street. It's completely over for me and will never be the same ever again.
If it wasn't for gambling, I'd have absolutely ZERO interest in professional sports right now. I'm too bitter and jaded about the corporatization of what is in essence a game to be enjoyed. Instead, everything is objectified and commodified and everyone wants a piece of the economic pie. It's a travesty and this society should be ashamed. The only silver lining for me is that the society in which we live does not deserve a place like Yankee Stadium or Ebbets Field or Chicago Stadium or Boston Garden or the Montreal Forum. Rest in peace, beloved sports venues from a bygone era that will never be replicated.

I grew up in Cleveland so you can guess...
- Brian Sipe interception against the Oakland Raiders in the final minute (I froze my butt off in minus 21 degree weather)
- Earnest Byner fumbling the ball as he's has a clear path to the endzone.
- "The Drive" by John Elway - Damn him...
-Jose Fuking Mesa blowing a game 7 save in the bottom of the 9th that cost us the World Series (worst moment than Bucky Dent)
- and of course the one they show time and time again... MJ over Ehlo

but now I can add
That's a great one. I can't wait to hear what that mother****ing chipmunk Skip Bayless is going to say on Monday morning about LeBron. Hopefully Cleveland will win Game 3 on Sunday so he can't make up some bullshit about how the series isn't over and if Cleveland doesn't win it this shot will be meaningless. I hate that ****er so much.

The legendary Left Fielder #23 for the Tigers Willie Horton throwing our Lou Brock at home on a sacrifice fly in the 1968 World Series. I was there with my dad and grandfathers sitting in the bleachers chilled to the bone but glad to be there.
A close second was when the non-professional USA Men's Basketball Team lost their first game. All those extra attempts, throwing the ball three-quarters plus court and a desperation shot ... they kept having "mistakes" until the Russians made a basket with no time left. Was one of the worst endings I've ever seen.
Had this not been mentioned previously, I would had it second. The USA Olympic Hockey team in the "Do you believe in miracles?" game.
There could more current ones but those will always put into my mindset first. Thanks to all who've contributed to this thread.

the edgar renteria single up the middle in game 7 of the 97 world series that drove home craig counsell to give the fish their first world series.
that team was rediculous, if that sob wayne huizenga didnt trade em away we would been a dynasty and coulda won it all again in 98.
i cried after we traded that team away, so sad but then some could say we got the talent for the 03 series from those trades but i woulda rather seen bonilla/daulton/nenn/leiter/edgarr/LIVAN/and sheffield bring it back to miami

Lebron James shot last night for many reasons. It was a series saving shot and kept us in it. If they go on to win the championship it will be my cherished memory. Another reason is that I'm a cleveland fan. Browns, Cavs and Indians. So we haven't exactly had that many great memories only heartbreakers. So by process of elimination it is ranked #1 on my list. Now if you mean something that wasn't so close to my heart then I may be able to squeeze one out of my memory that would be close. His reaction after the shot fell was like a 13 year old kid hitting the winning shot at middle school. For the pure love of the sport.

Not to piss on the moment, but Lebron's shot will be nothing more than a footnote if they don't win the series.
