      a) no one really answered correctly, I had all time lineups..... 1-9 lineups..... 1-5 lineups with no explanation
      b) I lost interest
      c) SBR still hasn't given me my shipment of merchandise......

1-Ichiro Suzuki.....bats for a high average, patient hitter but has sneaky power, fast can steal bases and is exceptional in the field as well.
2-Hanley Ramirez.....was the best lead off hitter in the NL if not the game, his extraordinary power prompted the Marlins to move him into more of a RBI spot to the 3 hole.
3-Alex Rodriguez.....despite the numerous distractions he continues to be one of the most feared hitters in the game and his numbers reflect that.
        4-Albert Pujols
.....probably the best player in baseball today, no much protection in St. Louis but still produces MVP numbers every year as well as a true threat to win the Triple Crown.
        5-Manny Ramirez
.....one of the best hitters ever, not much he can't do, knows what to do with every pitch and uses the whole field to his advantage, Manny being down 0-2 in the count is like most hitters being up 2-0 in the count his approach never changes.

Ichiro & Hanley seem to always be on base which wouldn't allow you to pitch around A-Rod, Pujols & Manny.....making this the most dangerous lineup in baseball.

1- jose reyes will hit close to 300 will steal 60 plus bases and get plenty of extra base hits and scores over 110 runs a year
2 - dustin pedroia rookie of the year, mvp guy hits well over 300 avg close to 50 doubles a year will steal 15-20 bases and score over 100 seems like he is always on base
3-hanley ramirez can do it all will hit you 30 plus homeruns knock in over 100 rbi and can steal 40 and averages 199 hits a year
4-albert pujols best hitter in baseball in my opinion career averages of .334 ,1.050 ops .624 slg, .0426 obp ,128.2 rbi's,42 homeruns, over 44 doubles ,200 hits and 125 runs scored a year and can steal 10 bases IMPRESSIVE
5-miguel cabrera 312 hitter over his career also averages over 32 hr a year 120 rbi's 40 doubles 190 hits and is already off to a another nice year hitting 374 while slg over 600

              1. Hanley Ramirez
You want a leadoff hitter who has a high level of Bases per Plate Appearance and a high OBP. Ramirez has a little speed, a high OBP of .404 and most importantly base per plate appearance is an amazing .55.

              2. Joey Votto
In a number two hitter you want a hitter who moves the leadoff hitter over as the number two hitter also gets on base, so you want a high slugging percentage and a high base per plate appearance and a high OBP. Once Hanley gets on base, Joey is going to move him over with his .600 slugging percentage and incredible .6 bases per plate appearance and Joey is going to get on base when Hanley doesn't with Joey's .449 OBP.

              3. Albert Puljos.
For the number 3 hitter you want raw power. High slugging, lots of HR and extra base hits, but you also want someone who gets on base, so high OBP. Puljos will drive in the runners on base and get on base himself. He has an astonishing .7 bases per plate appearance and the best slugging percentage in baseball as well as a high OBP.

              4. Joe Mauer.
Another raw power hitter, Joe will drive in any base runners left over after Puljos. Mauer has a very respectful .6 bases per plate appearance, the second best slugging % in baseball at .670 and a healthy .459 OBP.

              5. Prince Fielder.
The run scoring train will continue rolling down the tracks with Fielder and his .600 slugging, .4 OBP and healthy .6 bases per plate appearance.

Bet the prop bet scores in first inning when this lineup is facing you.

                - cannot be topped, thank you ...come again.
this is not interchangable. i completely agree that mauer is the x-factor and that any discussion of the top 5 in your lineup must have them at 2,3.

                My lineup would be:

                1. Ian Kinsler- currently slumping but still a beast. numbers comparable to any other leadoff hitter mentioned, power, low k rate, high percentage basestealing.
                2. Joe Mauer- super OBP/AVG, pure awesome
                3. Albert Pujols- best player in the game
                4. Miguel Cabrera-not many imposing hitters who can protect albert. miggy one of a few without the baggage.
                5. Ryan Howard-rbi monster. considered Prince Fielder who has been stellar with risp & risp/2 outs this season over anyone. Howard is more built and it comes down to having 10+ more HRs annually. He shares Alberts distinction as the threats to ARod's career HR record.

                    Podsednik-a real Leadoff hitter.

                    Eckstein-a true 2 hitter

Youkilis-what a 3 hitter was before roidheads like canseco migrated into baseball.

                    Ryan howard- real power

Ichiro- would bat him 5th instead of 3rd to Leadoff second inning

now that i think about it. whether big prince is too hefty or too short has no influence on whether he is any more or any less talented than ryan howard. the kid is younger and can flat out hit. anyone can be enamored by the hrs and rbis but prince still gets em. so whoever puts fielder at the 5 would win. that would be one helluva lineup. puts up a higher average, a more manageable BB to K ratio, and if its any indication this year is no anomaly. he is beginning to peak and revert back to his '07 50 hr form only with more rbis. knew i had it right in my head the first time.

At some point in the offseason, we'll work up a good thread on building a 25-man roster that stays below $30 million in salary. Picking a wide open lineup is fun, but it's always more interesting to me to put a restrictor plate on it and then revisit it a year or two later.
