1) Anyone who has ever played poker knows that dealers who've been doing it for years are bitter, bitter, bitter. Monkey definitely fits the bill here.

2) Most loser poker dealers, when their 8 hour shift ends and they collect their $22.43 in tips, go to another casino and play poker there. Monkey still plays poker.

3) Monkey says he has to stay in Vegas. This is because of all the money he owes casinos due to #2.

4) They crave respect. They certainly don't get it as a dealer, wearing those tacky outfits and having to thank people for tipping them quarters. They try to get somewhere playing poker, they consider blackjack, but Monkey stumbled upon sports betting.

5) They will do absolutely anything to avoid making an honest living. This is similar to #4. They think they are too good to work 9-5. They think they are smarter than everyone else and will stay poor the rest of their lives trying to prove everyone that they will beat the game.
