#114I'm wondering if there is anything else to be done here. It seems like things might finally be ready to settle into the original plan for the thread - bickering and name-calling. I don't have much interest in that but just to be fair and hold up my end: everyone who doesn't like me is a fatso.
Haha etc! Pwned etc!
I have told my heroin story. As far as I can think, it is my only heroin story. Smack was never a huge part of my deal and most of the times I did it, absolutely nothing happened.
I mean nothing. You just sit there. That's it.
I have done all kinds of other substances. Should I tell the story of the time I threatened to shit from a tree? That's an alcohol story and the thread title does specify smack. Also, the threatening to shit from a tree story is not that great. In fact, I have pretty much already told the story. Drunk, I threatened to shit from a tree.
Damn, I must have better alcohol stories. Well I don't know.
Another quote from Trainspotting:
RENTON: The down side of coming off junk was that I knew I would need to mix with my friends again in a state of full consciousness. It was awful: they reminded me so much of myself I could hardly bear to look at them. Take Sick Boy, for instance, he came off junk at the same time as me, not because he wanted too, you understand, but just to annoy me, just to show me how easily he could do it, thereby downgrading my own struggle. Sneaky ****er, don't you think?Comment -

Word. I've seen that.
When I think of what could happen with my business if I ever relapsed, I shudder (never mind all the other issues that would come about as a result of relapse).
I could see things getting messy and typing in the wrong number of zeros and making late night bets on drunken inspiration.
I just can't see how it would end up as anything but bad.Comment -

#120I start hating this forum...heroin is such a serious topic specially if you know someone who had to fight against it, and the shitheads here make fun of one of the worst addictions that can happen to anyone.

Different perspectives I guess.
I agree heroin is a serious topic. I encounter people fighting it all the time. So I think we're basically on the same page.
I thought there was some good discussion. There is some joking around but as a recovering addict, I felt like I was getting a good level of support. People were thanking me for my honesty. You say you are hating the forum after this thread; I find I am liking it more.
I think the thread contains the all-important message that addiction can be fought and there can be life after heroin (and other addictions). I am completely sincere in my offer to talk to anyone about it privately.
I'm not going to re-read the whole thread right now but I only noticed one guy attempting to make fun of addictions. And he is a well-known drug user (and all-around bundle of issues) so, for that and other reasons, no one with any sense takes him seriously.
If anything, his behavior is a great demonstration of issues a lot of addicts face - denial and self-loathing. These things are huge. It can't be over-stated.
Sometimes a demonstration is more powerful than a lecture.
But I believe we are on the same side, Casi. It sucks if you have had someone close to you go down the path.Comment -

#131I came across this today in my email box - an article seemingly I wrote in Jan of 2005. Unsure if I published it or held back.
Living life with drug addictions
Addictions come in all forms. Some are good and some are bad. If you really look at all addictions, I think you will find most are bad.
Let's talk about drug addictions a bit. Remember when you were 14 and you had that friend who smoked pot and you had to try and see what that was like. Did you like it? Were you hooked? What was next? Did another buddy have to smoke cigarettes? That first try and that head rush it gave was enough to keep you going back for more until the buzz was gone, but the addiction was there.
What about alcohol? Have you ever had to try that drink and find that the feeling is so good you need more the next day? Afterall, the worries are gone for awhile and life is so good when there is a good drunk on. Can you say no today or is it still something that dictates your day? Do you await that moment when you can have a sip, whether beer, whiskey, or wine each day?
Then you find pills are helpful in assisting that high as well. A couple pain pills or a couple nerve pills along with the alcohol, cigs, and pot. What more could you want? A good feel, pain free, no worries, and feeling like a king. Only for a period before the misery returns I might add.
We will skip the other things that can easily come along. The crank, crack, meth, coke, etc.... Those things that when added to all the downers which we discussed earlier may lead you to be with Elvis.
Maybe you are addicted to stealing, gambling, or fishing as well. Some are not all bad.
The real issue here is when is it time to stop? No matter how many times that you look in the mirror and say "Well, today I will cease." Do you really know what addiction is and what can happen when you try and stop? You can make yourself very sick and you can die. When is it to late? How many times in your life can one say "I will stop on Monday, or atleast start cutting back."
Everyone needs to get off that train sooner or later. Hopefully we can all realize our issues before it is to late and that day arrives when you are either dead or it is just to late in life to get clean. The older you get and the more addicted you become, the harder it is to stop these things. A man can die from DT's if not careful. If you have drank everyday for a few years and you suddenly stop, you will likely have withdrawal affects. These are not a happy feeling anylonger and they, moreso than anything will lead you back into an addiction that you are trying to kick.
I am not sure why I write all of this, but in here is a message for someone and I hope that that person can realize before it is to late that the train ride has to end somewhere. Will it be at your convenience in the comfort of your home, in a detox center, or at a burial ceremony?
Life is really short and sometime we live our lives around addictions that dictate every move we make in our days.
I really hope many of us here can get away and learn to enjoy life, if only a short period, independent of abusive substances. I know many like to say, "Not me, I'll be fine", but someday, somewhere you will remember what I am saying and you will agree that there is a time coming when it is possibly to late for you.

#132Thanks General. A lot of good stuff in there. The thing that jumped out at me today was this:
In the 12-step programs they talk about getting clean and sober one day at a time. That was how I drank.
Just this one last weekend.
Well it's Monday but I'm hurtin' from the weekend so I'll have a few today and straighten out tomorrow.
Okay well it's Tuesday but the big hockey game is on so I have to get high for that.
Wednesday I just couldn't drive past the liquor store. No excuse. Just no will-power. It happens.
Thursday is basically the weekend so I'll get started and think about cleaning up next Money.
And then on Monday: You know, I really could go for a little something today. Maybe I'll just wait until the end of hockey season to think about getting my act together.
And then at the end of hockey season: Well, maybe after baseball.
Damn overlapping seasons. Maybe sports are to blame for all my problems.Comment -

Very poignant post for me.
My most recent girlfriend is an alcoholic who was in recovery when we were together but she relapsed in January. Man she loved to have me play the piano for her. She always wanted to hear the same 4-5 songs over and over. Made me mental because I like more variety, but it was nice to have someone that really enjoyed my singing.
Anyway, as I said, she relapsed. She's out of my life now. That's how it has to be. She is a sweetheart when she's sober but has huge issues when she drinks. She has done serious physical damage to herself and also does really stupid dangerous things.
I would not be surprised to get a phone call any day telling me she's dead.
Boy-o-boy, how's that for a bringdown?
But I would certainly play a song for you if I could.Comment -
