Not at all, opium is unprocessed resin straight from the poppy. Black tar is the stage in processing directly before it's refined into a powder. It's all very much heroin, different forms just have different effects. Black tar actually has consistently more monoacetylmorphine than powder heroin. This renders it more potent than powder, which is mostly diacetylmorphine. Powder is just much easier to inject and induces greater euphoria with a more sudden onset. Black tar produces more of a joyous lethargy.

I don't want to get involved to much currently, but I am an admitted Alcoholic and Drug user. As thousands before me though I have relapsed and tried again. That is about the extent of it for now, but I understand thoroughly and fully the despairs behind being an addict. I pray daily for all those who are suffering.Comment -
Yeah, the physical withdrawal symptoms from heroin withdrawal are so gut-wrenching I wouldn't wish them even on HedgeHog, and that's saying a lot. It will ruin your life for about a month, but after that it's not so bad and I personally didn't feel much of a yearning to start back up again.
Meth on the other hand is by far the most insidious drug I've ever quit. There's very little pain, but a psychological despondency so deep and impermiable that it left me literally incapable of happiness for many many months, and even when that had passed I still wrestled with the daily urge to use again. It was probably a full calendar year before I was back to my old self (and 30 pounds heavier). Of all the drugs I warn people to be careful with, meth tops the list.

"Useless lard" is about as apt a description as I can think of. A detail I left out of my story was the fact that I was smoking the heroin and drinking with about 5 or 6 people. The detail seemed unnecesary. No one interacts much. Hours can pass with no one saying anything. Might as well have been alone. Useless lard.
As for the terminal scenario, I don't think I would apply the term "a bang" to heroin. There is nothing splashy about it. Heroin would be more along the lines of, getting it over with. You wouldn't be appreciating your last moments much. I'm sure you would sleep a lot, time would go really fast in a blur, you'd die.
But certainly if excruciating pain is involved and there is no hope, might as well get into some extreme opiates.Comment -
OH man I took an Oxy once. I'd taken some vics and percs here and there just for fun. All it does is multiply your drunkeness IMO. So I figured the same effect...WRONG! I was hallucinating like balls, then I puked the next morning for the first time in about 15 years. YIKES! No thank you.Comment -
I have really enjoyed some of the comments in this thread. Rather than respond to them individually, I'll address a few repeated themes.
My scrotum is a magical place. I have the power to make it taste like whatever I want. Most often, I elect for Medium-hot Buffalo Wings, although it is a bit early in the day for that right now. At this moment, one could expect the flavor of cinnamon toasty Apple Jacks. The important thing is, I take requests.
It has been noted that my cock and balls are very aesthetically pleasing and have a jaunty, how-do-you-do kind of attitude. Having people wink at or tip their hat to my crotch has become a routine part of walking down the street for me when I forget to wear pants.
The heroin I used was the brown powder variety. This story happened quite a long time ago. Over 20 years, I'm sure.
There is a lot I could say about opiates. I was recently involved in training some panelists for a public education thing the city of Toronto is doing about methadone clinics. It's all about opiates. Somewhat controversial. I met some fascinating people.
But I don't want to get all serious and start lecturing. I do highly recommend the book and movie Trainspotting. Very entertaining while also containing a lot of truth.

All of us will be faced with serious problems in life. Its helpful to read about how other people dealt with theirs. I very much appreciate Mud talking about his challenges. Who knows who will read that and like when Mud drank the 12 beers without taking a leak, it could just get through and help someone.
