    "Buy American". What horseshit.
Yes, the free market has done so well for us. Please tell me how we can continue with huge trade deficits without our currency being drastically debased? If out currency is debased, please tell me how this helps our standard of living when gas costs $10 a gallon?

We have not had the free market for a long time. The further away from free market principles the economy drifts the worse it gets. The problem started piling up under Bush when the free market was mostly abandoned in favor of government spending.

Why do you think the Americans entitled to a certain standard of living? I am glad you are starting to realize that the good days are soon to be over.

Okay, I am done for the night. You like answering questions not posed to you. I think we probably agree more than we disagree. I just still haven't heard a good argument why we should not in these terrible economic times support our fellow countrymen. Even if Toyota makes a better car than Ford, it makes it more likely they will continue to do so by buying one and supporting their R&D, which in turn will force Ford to fire American engineers, accountants, marketers, etcs, which will in turn, accelerate our demise. Why do we want that again?

I love how people think the current situation is a free market. Not even close.

Todd, when it comes to your opinion on the currency being debased, you're ignoring a very important aspect: people continue to demand USD because it is still considered the safest currency to hold. During a crisis people flock to U.S. t-bills. Why hasn't the USD fallen to shit despite the fact that the U.S. has had trade deficits for a long, long time now?
