Plommer, for the record, I hate the political elite as a whole. I hate waste. I hate being taxed to death and getting nothing in return (I'm single, healthy and asmall-business owner, started with my own money). I hate seeing public sector jobs being paid 50% over private-sector rates. This is country-wide, not just in Quebec. And we're only one of 8 provinces getting that money. We could easily survive without it, just like every other province. One way or another, that money all goes towards the survival of the bourgeois/political class. **** the government as a whole.

Who the **** signed that Equalization deal? I can't find who was responsible for that.

Matty, while Quebec would "survive" without Canada the standard of living would drop dramatically - Quebec is the single largest beneficiary of equalization payments and replacing that lost "income" would be difficult.



The fact that Quebecers consider the fleur des lis important because it is "their" flag is itself offensive, the flag of a province is simply decoration, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in Canada that revere's its provincial flag. Quebecers don't get that.

Your graph also shows that we're getting the lowest amount per capita. Either way, it's irrelevant. Of course the standard of living would go down, especially for the little guy, the blue-collar worker. That glorified secretary making $75k in some cushy government job will be the last one willing to make any sacrifice. Again, country-wide issue.

About the flag issue, come on man. I can drive 500kms northeast and find hundreds of close relatives of mine. Pretty much every family here descends from a single colonized Frenchman. We're a tightly-knit people, with all the good and bad that it implies. Our TV/media/culture market is incredibly strong 'cause of the simple fact that we're an isolated bunch of French-speaking people. You guys from the ROC don't even watch your own TV shows and a lot of you are unable to define your identity in any other way than by saying you're not American. Like the Kids in the Hall famously said, a Canadian is an American without a gun.

Of course the provincial flag means more to us than it does to you.
