#72of course bernie wants to win. of course he can win (clearly a long shot but if the people get active it's certainly possible, dare i say, likely). the only reason why howard dean lost steam was because the corporate media deemed him unelectable after he screamed into a microphone too loudly (that's actaully a great example of how powerful the media is and how if they don't want you, it's nearly possible to win).
Dean ran out of steam. He started talking about winning Bubbas in the South and Kerry stole his campaign and the Dems thought he was more electable like Clinton. Dean was a little wild.Comment -

#73watch brunch with bernie on hartmann. he clearly thinks he can win. it's obviously going to take a never seen before grassroots movement, but his intention is to build that movement, and win the white house. plain and simple. he's not in this thing so hillary can pretend to be for working-class people.Comment -

Point is, every American knows that things can't remain the same. We are basically hopeless because unless the people do something drastic, we are permanently fukked.

We are under attack, Republicans and Democrats. Throw your politics in the garbage because we're all on the same boat. We should be fighting for our freedom, and to make sure we can stabilize the country for our kids and future generations. Teach those who don't know who those awful three letter Government agencies are, like the irs, and what their true motives are. Right now every individual in politics is already bought and paid for. A seventy year old socialist is not the answer for rebuilding the USA.Last edited by sourtwist; 06-12-15, 08:21 PM.Comment -

#83My imagination may be unrealistic for many, so I don't care to elaborate too much but let's say that there are too many foreign hands on the interests of the people of the USA. These people need to be dealt with the same way they dealt with our best president, JFK. They took the best we ever had and we need to try to make happen the things that got him killed. Abolish the Fed and dismantle the Cia. Those two issues, alone, will be the best thing that could ever happen to our country, and the world.Comment -

#85I'm not sure. We could do with a lot less of the CIA.
As for the Fed, that's a little tricky. Before the Fed, you had to have JP Morgan sign off on anything you wanted to do financially and you would probably get more bank power instead of less. Plus, you would have politicians making interest rate decisions and such which would be a disaster.Comment -

#87Silver is just a shiny piece of useless metal. You got the Fed because of the 1929 stock market collapse. The Fed is not going to force a dollar collapse. The dollar really can't collapse. You have to have some kind of currency in the world and what else is it going to be? It could be China but China is dependent on us for a long time to come.Comment -

#88Mr Nickle you bring a lot to the table. But..
I'm the type of person who feels like he doesn't have all the answers. One of my favorite words is why.
The way you answer questions with such confidence is very noticeable, and troubling. Nobody really knows anything.Comment -

#95people would be so surprised at how much better it would be if the Government just got out of the way and let people run their own lives. I would cut 95% of all government jobs. Most of them are make-work jobs as it is. A licence to steal.
Yes, Government has a place in society. They are paid by the people to help the needy and protect the people. Everything else should be privatized.
Politician's jobs should be part time. Maybe 2 months of the year max. The rest of the year, they can work like everyone else.Comment -

#98Low-income households pay relatively low federal taxes, primarily because tax credits reduce or eliminate their income tax liability, and some (called refundable credits) result in net payments to them. Stimulus measures enacted to offset the adverse effects of the 2008-09 recession further re-duced the tax-burden on these families. In 2011, tax units in the lowest income quintile (that is, the 20 percent of all tax units with the lowest incomes) on average paid federal income, payroll, and es-tate taxes equal to 0.8 percent of their cash income, less than a twentieth of the 18.1 percent average effective tax rate for all tax units (see table).
Underlying Data: Download
- Because the earned income tax credit (EITC) is refundable and the child tax credit (CTC) is partly so, the average effective individual income tax rate for the bottom two income quin-tiles in 2011 was negative; that is, the tax credits more than offset positive income tax liabil-ity, so that the average household in these quintiles received a net payment from the gov-ernment.
- Low-income households face a lower than average effective payroll tax rate because they get less of their income from earnings and more from transfer payments than do higher-income households. In 2011, payroll taxes claimed 6.2 percent of the cash income of tax units in the lowest quintile, compared with 7.0 percent for all tax units.
- Tax units in the lowest income quintile pay about the same average effective tax rate on cor-porate income (passed through to them as shareholders) than units in the next two quintiles. That outcome occurs because low-income elderly households get a disproportionately large share of their income from their retirement savings.
- Not surprisingly, low-income households pay virtually no estate taxes. In 2011, the $5 mil-lion threshold for estate tax liability ($10 million for married couples) will exclude taxpayers in all but the highest income quintile from the tax.
- Effective tax rates on low-income households have changed markedly over the past quarter century (see figure 1). Creation of the CTC and expansion of the EITC both served to lower the effective individual income tax rate for these households from about 0.5 percent in the early 1980s to its negative value more recently. In contrast, the effective payroll tax rate for households in the lowest income quintile increased by more than half over the same period. The effective corporate income tax rate for low-income households has also fallen since 1979, while the effective excise tax rate rose slightly.
Underlying Data: Download - Low-income married couples with children have seen a marked decline in their taxes since 1970 (see figure 2). For example, the average combined income and payroll tax rate for mar-ried couples with two children and income at the poverty level fell from over 9 percent in 1970 to negative 27 percent in 2010. That decline resulted in large part from the creation and subsequent expansion of the refundable EITC and partially refundable CTC as well as the temporary stimulus measures in 2009 and 2010.

#99almost 30,000 pages long? Everyone knows its ridiculous yet it just keeps on gettin' bigger and bigger. Same goes for the debt.
Government has gotten so big that it can't stop. It's kinda like the store owner who has a window shop in the neighborhood. When he needs business, he goes out at night with a few rocks in his pockets and the next day he has a reason to be in business again. Heck, if he does it every night, he can open several more stores.
Government has convinced the people that they are important and there is no way life can go on without them. They need more money so they can spend more money on themselves and whatever they want.
How bout government just helps the real needy in society and protects the people whom they represent by flooding the street with police who actually "walk the beat" and get to know the people in the neighborhoods?
Your senator comes in for 8 weeks a year approves shit and makes a few votes, does some needed stuff for his modest salary and the people he represents and then returns to his business or job. While government is in session for those 8 weeks, they get a lot of shit done. If they don't, then they stay longer until it's done. They get paid a salary so if they don't get shit done in the designated timeframe, they stay until its done and they don't get to charge the public more salary. I bet, they would be efficient as fukk.Comment -

didn't watch the video but i read a similar critique from hedges. here's my objection to that line of reasoning: first off, were supposed to build a separate 3 party and challenge the democratic party from the left? and how is that going to happen? how long will it take? couldn't do it by 16'. so we're basically dooming bernie to a nader like fate- he'll be aced out of the discussion entirely and maybe pull 5%.
the only way to do this is the way that bernie is doing it. first take on the corporatist democrats, hopefully build a never-seen-before grassroots movements, then take on the republicans. i don't accept the narrative that the democratic party can't be reformed. of course i'd like to see an eventual break-up of the two-party system, but that isn't going to happen ATM, so we've gotta work within the system to a certain extent.
bernie knows that if he runs as an independent he's doomed. he doesn't want to be the next ralph nader- he wants to penetrating win- and he can.Comment -
