#72At the end of the day, dez needed to hold on to the ball. He knew it and he didn't. The steps he took were as he was falling to the ground. This has been called this way since the rule was put in place. I agree that I hate the rule book definition, but by the rule book, it's clearly not a catch.Comment -

#75No he doesn't take 3 sold steps. He is airborne when he catches the ball. He lands first on his left foot. Sorry but that's not considered a step. He then goes to his right foot so we can call that one step. Then he goes down without his feet touching the ground again until after rolling over and having lost possession.
NFL rules say in such a situation you have to complete the process for it to be ruled a completion. Here are a few angles showing my take on what happened is true.

And just about every national analyst is taking the same position. Maybe the rule needs to be changed, maybe it doesn't. I honestly don't care because I know it's impossible to create a rule which will prevent situations like this. But the rule as currently written mandates that that is not a catch.Comment -

#80Wasn't a damn catch. You have to maintain control of the ball all the way thru hitting the ground on a catch and he didn't. The ball hit the ground, popped up outta his hands, and he re caught it. That's like a quarterback throwing a ball in the dirt and the receiver catching it on a bounce and saying it was a catch. Arm and elbow means jack shit when you're falling on a catch. Quit crying like a lil bitch and accept defeat.Comment -

He works in a profession where it is far better to have people talking about how stupid you are than simply ignoring you - because then at least you're being talked about and people know who you are and they tune in to hear what stupid thing you'll say next.Comment -

#89No, I don't agree. I'm not talking about whether or not the rule is good. It was just not applied correctly here because he made a football move. Namely, right foot then left foot then right foot then stretchout. That's a football move. 3 of them really. And they covered more than 5 yards. This is not the situation where the receiver dove and then didn't complete the catch. He caught it in the air, came down, took 3 steps and stretched out toward the goal line. I guess the problem is that "football move" doesn't actually seem to be defined anywhere. To me, the catch followed by 3 steps and a stretch is a football move, but I guess since it's not defined one could say that it's not.Comment -

#91Have you guys actually watched nfl games over the past few years? This comes up quite often. I really can't explain it to you if you don't understand the rule. Watch espn all this week and you might understand.Comment -

For the umpteenth time, the refs applied the correct rule and it is a judgement call. All I'm saying is that I completely disagree with the judgment that he did not make a football move. The problem is that football move is not actually defined anywhere so it is ambiguous and the ref can make it mean whatever he wants it to mean in any situation. However, in my considered judgment, 3 separate steps plus a stretch out all covering over 5 yards is a "football move." I will accept that reasonable minds can differ only because the football move term is not actually defined anywhere. That is the real problem. I guess it's kind of like pornography. You're supposed to know a football move when you see it. I see a football move, but maybe you don't.Comment -

#105You dorks complaining about the Detroit Call...Stafford threw a laser at the back of a DB that was blanketing his receiver. Ridiculous PI calls got to end sometime...But you nerds wouldn't let it go and it had a carry over effect to this game with a call Dean Blandino actually did have control over...
