#73San Francisco 500sq ft = $2000 sucks balls.Originally posted by The KrakenLived in OKC all my life. Recently, I've been offered two jobs, one in SF and one in Seattle. Not sure where we'll be moving but it will be one of those two liberal, pansy ass cities.
And I'm excited as hell.
Regardless, we'd live downtown or very close to it. This will also be very new to me. We're looking at renting for the first 6-12 months and then buying. I'm used to having a few acres, now I'm looking at 2BR apts
unreal how expensive it is to live in those cities. Maybe I could get a part time gig here to make ends meet.
Anyways, I realize this is all pretty pointless for you guys but it's a pretty big move for Kraken.
Like KD, I've outgrown the smaller markets
Hope you are making over $100k. Or else just commute in from BeniciaComment -

#74Both cities are very similar.
Positives: Both are by the ocean, which allows you eat the best sea food. If you are a food guy, SF is the place. But the surrounding areas of Seattle are a lot better (both living arrangements and people).
Negatives: SF housing prices are ridiculous. I always laugh at my friends homes because they pay so much for pieces of crap::: For Seattle, the weather is horrid. Everyone I know that has moved there, say they get depressed because of the not stop rain. The first year in Seattle will take a huge toll on your families sanity.Comment -

#75When I'm in San Francisco for couple of months a year, I'm staying at very small basement apartment in Sunset district - $700 a month.
SF is great for walking - I do at least 5 miles a day. Lots of great sushi places too.Comment -

#77One of the top flame thrower cities toOriginally posted by opie1988San Fran blows in my opinion. Walking up giant fukkin hills everywhere you go. I'll never forget how we visited this Mexican food place, and they brought out this tiny ass bowl of tortilla chips. Literally like 6 fukkin chips in this bowl. So I finish them in about 90 seconds, and ask for some more. The waitress told me there's a small charge for extra chips. WHAT THE FUKK??? Also, everytime I ordered tea to drink, they asked me "hot or cold?". Do what? Who in the fukk orders hot fukkin tea at a fukkin restaurant??
Bunch of fukkin weirdos.

My my choice is SF, 100%. My sales pitch (to my wife) is that is doesn't have to be permanent, just a year or two. Get her there and hope she falls in love with it and wants to say.
her pick is Seattle due to family
Rocketer I just showed her your pic, showing her the weather, good views and the bridge and she says "who's the cute guy?"

Either way, I'll be making a final decision next Friday.Comment -

If you decide to move to SF, look into San Bruno for your living arrangements. It's a nice and quiet little town that sits right on the outskirts of SF. You can get a much nicer place for rent in San Bruno, plus the commute to SF would be a piece of cake.

#86There are a lot of myths here. The weather is freaking awesome in Seattle. HORRID ???? LOL. The rain thing is a myth, it hardly ever snows more than an inch, never very cold, never very hot.I haven't felt a drop of rain in months. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index....hat-much-rain/ A lot of people will talk about the "not stop rain" in Seattle. It simply isn't true. http://www.komonews.com/weather/blog...189098361.html im not sure if it has even rained 1 time this summer.Originally posted by eidolonFor Seattle, the weather is horrid. Outrageous prices for rents in sf. Cost of living basically sucks!! find a place just outside of sf and you should be ok. I.E. South San Francisco, Daly City, San Mateo, Redwood City, San Jose.. Anywhere outside SF and should be a little more reasonable..Comment -

#97I've been to Seattle twice and it's a really cool city.....Lots of things to do and great seafood. The whole city/surrounding area is so nice/green
Surrounding suburbs are great IMO....I'd look at Kirkland
Both times I went were in the summer and the weather was pretty much amazing......Zero humidity, pure sun, not too hot with a crisp and fresh breeze. The rest of the year I have no clue about but the summer is great
People are a little weird/off though as a downside.....Agree with Gaucho about that. Just seem "aloof" and not many people look to help you or make conversation......Obviously not everyone but as a whole....Will be an adjustment coming from Oklahoma where people are much nicer
Heard great things about SF as well so I don't think you can make a wrong choice here GLComment -

#103You could borrow a play from Chris Gatling's Handbook to Paying No Rent (Amazon 23 used and 0 new starting at $0.99) and just move into someone's house without them finding out and live there cuz they're not living there. He got away with that for about 6 months I think. You'd have no rent payment at all if you did that. Bay areas got a lot of Wealthy people. Lot of part time of the year homes.Originally posted by The KrakenWe'd live downtown or very close to it. This will also be very new to me.
