Baskets-Jordan (come on, it's not even close)
Football-Walter Payton (again, there really is no competition here. One of the greatest to play the game, a great teammate, and a better person)

#60Remember, Hawks home games were not on TV until recently. Entire generations of potential Chicago hockey fans suffered from stunted growth. Personally, I followed the the Hawks, but never considered myself a fan. It was just too much of a buzz kill to hear the crowd boo on TV every time the Hawks scored. It's been a lot more fun the past three years after papa Wirtz died.Originally posted by Nicky Santorook,, i have noticed so so many chicago guys here.. i have heard every chicago star mentioned... but not one person mentioned Denis Savard.. guys from chicago, wasn't denis the magician savard a hero in chicago?? come on.. he is by far the most exciting player to watch in NHL history.. there will NEVER be a more exciting hockey player ever than Denis Savard.. a montreal boy who was so fun to watch with his spinorama.. didn't anyone from illinois like denis savard. .what a player he was.. was he not known at all in chicago. is hockey that dead. come on, someone pls tell me you loved denis savard.. #61Brock Landers,

Roenick wasn't that good.. roenick was good though for chicago in the 90's.. but the 80s.. Denis Savard was a GOD.. i swear to god, the most exciting player to ever play the game.. including super mario, the great one wayne gretzky, the rocket richard or bobby orr....

savard and larmer were way way better than Kane and Toews today..i ca'nt believe no one from chicago idolized Denis savard..if you are over 35, you have to have loved denis savard..

man, hockey must be dead in illiinois if denis savard is not an idol..Comment

 #64tight thread.

I met Isiah Thomas multiple times when I was younger. Him and Vinny Johnson were regulars at my Dads liquor store back in the day.

I really didn't idolize him though. But he was a great PG. Vinny was solid too.

I've met a quite a few athletes, only from this area though as I haven't traveled much. Barry Sanders is a fukkin fag. Amazing running back, but I went up to the guy to say what up once and got the biggest shaft ever

Only person I can say I really idolized was Jordan. Never met him, don't know about his personality, but as a basketball fan, he has no flaws in his game. I remember the 1 time th epapers all came out saying Jordan can't shoot 3s and shit all he does is drive, and JOrdan popped like 6 or 7 or 8 threes or some shit THE NEXT DAY.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment

#69When I was kid playing baseball I pretended I was George Brett ( Brock!) I even chewed Big League Chew Gum to look like him.... or when playing shortstop Tony Fernandez. When I was out playing hockey I'd imagine I was Paul Coffee, Steve Yzerman or Denis Savard when I thought I could put a move on a defenceman...lol....when I played football I'd imagine I had the speed and moves of Gizmo Williams (CFL - Edmonton Eskimoes) with the power of Christian Okoye!! (Pretty mixed bag - these weren't the best of that era necessarily but were my favs as a kid!)
