Boys, i am sure we all grew up as kids idolizing an athlete. someone we admired..someone we wanted to be. someone we imitated. someone we dreamed of meeting. Mine was this guy here... Guy Lafleur.. I used to play hockey pretending to be him..I always wore his #10 jersey. i'd shoot like him, act like him.. i just wanted to be him.. I remember meeting him for 1st time and i started shaking.. what a day.. A day i'll never forget as a kid.

Who was your Idol as a kid? You all must have one.. Lets hear it.

Here was mine.. ... A GOD in montreal... my hero.....my idol....Guy Lafleur

Nicky, Guy had a bit of talent, but he's as smart as a bag of hammers.

I liked this dude a whole lot more.

Carl Yastrzemski and Yogi Berra were the main reasons I always wanted to wear No. 8. Bob Gibson was why I wanted to be a pitcher, which I sucked at.

plommer, guy lafleur is the 4th best hockey player to ever play the game. 1- mario, 2- wayne gretzky, 3- bobby orr, 4- guy lafleur..

btw, growing up in toronto, who was your idol? let me guess, Darryl Sittler?? not many stars there in toronto, huh?

Nicky i lived, slept, and drank College Basketball from 84 to the early 90's....the 86 Duke team that
made it the the final four, only to be upset in the final game by Never Nervous Pervis Ellison, and Louisville....

85 St Johns Redmen. Chris Mullin.....one of the best shooters the college game has ever seen.

Man i followed that shit close in those days...

sickler and jj, great idols.. maybe not jj's cause not many famous guys he just named, but sickler with a great one with trottier.

pucker, the boss man could only score goals.. guy was a complete player. great skater, great shot and a smart player and most exciting player to watch ever... even more exciting than Ovechkin.. when he skated down that wing with the hair flying back.. wow..

Le Petit Viking, Mats Naslund. Always used #26 when I played minor league sports. My "Matt Rain" player in NHL 09 also wears #26.

True, there was nothing quite like a Guy Lafleur breakaway with the hair flying back. Only caught the later years of his career, but he was still quite spectacular.

                                      Bossy - 752 games - 573 goals and 553 assists
                                      Lafleur - 1127 games - 560 goals and 793 assists

Do the math Nicky. Bossy has him beat.

Don Mattingly for me. He was the most dominant player in the game for a stretch until he hurt his back. He was never the same player but he played hard every game.

Wished he would have won a ring but it makes me feel good to know that in his only post season performance he hit over 400. To this day, whenver I go to the stadium I wear a Donnie Baseball Jersey. #23 for life.

I guess mine would have to be Martin Brodeur. Always played goalie and loved goalie from a young age, and he was the best; other than Patrick Roy of course. But I just preferred Brodeur and have followed his career closely.

Other favorite player as a kid was Tim Brown, great Raider and a consummate professional.

inner, you are a NYY fan and the best you can come up with is ricky monday? omg.. you could have chosen out of 239 NY superstars and you choose monday? wow..

onner,i am shocked that you are only guy to pick Jordan. i thought he'd be dominating here..

aao and mikey, i said 1 player, not 7.

pucker, 2 different era's.. lafleur played when goals were down.. bossy came in when scoring was very high. If Guy lafleur played in 80's and early 90's, he'd have 173 pt seasons.

your example is bad. that's like saying Rocket Richard is shit because he never had 130 pts seasons, when games were 2-1 back in the 50's..

Pucker, Lafleur is the 4th best hockey player to ever play the game.. and most exciting player ever, even more than Wayne and Bobby Orr and rocket richard.

Pucker, Nicky has no time for facts (or reality) - if Nicky says lefleur was better than Bossy it must be true, remember habs fans are fragile creatures, they suffer great mental anguish when facts prove the hab players they adore were not as good as other players.

Nicky continues the quebec tradition of making excuses when proven wrong.
