#703Glad to see you back D2D! Did amazing last year, thank you for all of that. I am starting this year with $500 I could spare (low I know). I was wondering if you had any advice on bankroll management?
I was looking at just taking a decimal off your bets, making them 10 and 5 approx. each game. This comes out to around 1.5% avg of my bankroll per game with some higher and lower for POD etc.Comment -

I would say that you could increase that a little bit....possibly use a $7.50 unit size....but you have to comfortable with it.
The only advice I have beyond that, is DO NOT chase. I have seen dozens of people come and go from my thread, and when somebody goes broke it has been a case of us having a sub par day (happens lots) and trying to make up the losses on a late game or on another sport. Just stick with it, if your roll drops to $350 at any point, drop to a $5 unit and it you ever get down to $200 drop to a $2.50 unit.
I have been chasey here and there, but never more than a pick or two....and all of them are in the old thread....most people didn't even classify them as chases, but they sometimes felt that way to me.
Manage your bankroll and you should be able to make $500 last an infinite amount of time....and I truly mean that.
PS, I started with $250.....while I invested it all every night and grew VERY quickly, that probably isn't the best way to go. $500 is nothing to sneeze at. I started this year again with $2000 and started using $50 units immediately....but I have the confidence and the history to believe that I would not get into trouble doing it that way.Comment -

#705I'm taking it all or atleast most of you're American? Right? I feel a bit sorry for you guys interms of betting on sports like NBA, which can be a very streaky, up and down sport. A team can be trailing 7 points and be as far back as 3.5 underdog and then before what, actually know it, 3 pointer, turnover, 3 pointer, turnover again and it's back in the balance again. This leaves so much value for "inplay betting".
It's worse when you guys bet prematch though I imagine, as you have to make a pick and stick to it. Your team can be 15 points up and still lose the match for you to meaning you get nothing at the end and after all that crap. With inplay you can cover, hedge or whatever. D2D, I had a brief look in here over a week back when you backed Raptors +7.5 and because of the momentum of the comeback, they didn't even cover the spread.
It's cruelty for you guys not to have inplay betting, I know some of you do, but there are others whom have to rely on their prematch selection, which sometimes you may not like during the game. Especially if player's like Tony Parker are getting injured in 3rd quarters.
There's a thing called betfair for UK and Australian betters, it automatically allows you to "trade/cash out" your bet for the maximum amount you could get for a perfect hedge. It's an exchange site and it's ideal for NBA, not only because there are somany shifts in scorelines but because it calculates the hedge for you in the click of a button.
D2D, had you backed Raptors +7.5 with Betfair, you would have had the opportunity to cash out with a computer calculated hedge which would have lost you a couple of pounds / dollars at most if you just let it run and it wins. You would have basically been backing -7.5 warriors with the raptors leading by 20 points in the 3rd quarter. Imagine the odds for -7.5 warriors at that point? A trade out/cash out with betfair means you'd have gotten atleast 95% of your potential winning from that bet in the 3rd quarter just by clicking "cash out".
Why is there nothing like this sort of inplay trading exchange site in the united states? and which states are limited from inplay betting? Feel sorry for you guys having to put up with horrible beats every now and again. Those with Cavs ML for example would have been devasted when Damien hit that 3 pointer, but with betfair, easy trade and cash for may be 60-70% of their potential winnings whilst the cavs had up 8 or 10?because the nickname of the good ole' US of A..."land of the free" somehow does not apply to how to spend your own money
D2D, myself and many others on this thread are, like you, lucky enough (with regard to gambling options) to be non-US'rs (who really do get the shit end of the stick by being forced into a "grey market")...still many of the really good contributors on this site do amazingly well despite this handicap...and if they ever get to operate away from an American IP address and really become able to line-shop, look out...they'll be like athletes who've grown up at altitude...Comment -

#711Nope. Very rarely below freezing in Vancouver.....and you may get one or two snows per year, and they usually last a day or two at the most.
Now, in Winnipeg it has been 40 below for the past 3 weeks.
Amazing

#715I did last year, in fact quite heavily, BUT I watched a ton of college last year and this year I have not had the time to focus there. I can't bet what I don't have confidence in....so, until further notice I am off of NCAA hoops
I do not like your Nuggets bet....I am not saying that they may not win, I just don't care for the way they match up with the Suns. The Lakers should be fine.....and Detroit might be a concern as well....but Nuggets would be my biggest worry if I was you.Comment -

#734I believe that it looks like we are about to have our worst day/night of the year so far. Everything really turned on a dime, and I knew Indiana was going to come out playing like mad, but I had no idea that Houston was going to come out so COMPLETELY flat. Honestly, Harden et al. should be ashamed of themselves.
The Canucks scoring with next to no time left was also terrible as the Hawks would have had a great shot to get up two with an empty netter.....
Really, just about everything bad that could happen...did. Lol. Shake it off and we will get back to it tomorrow.
