    1. 70 Home Run season

    2. Mcgwire and Bonds were and up until now (Arod) the FACE of the steroid battle.
I actually think Bagwell was the better player, McGwire got more publicity as aplyer because of the 70 HR season. McGwire has been the face of the steroid issue, but Bagwell's name as also been mentioned. I feel the HOF voters are not going to vote for anyone who has been suspected of doing steroids. This may change in the future as more information about steroid abuse comes out.

I will agree with that all day long. As far as I can tell the only thing that would ever change that is if a majority of players in the HOF and current stars step out and admit to using performance enhancing drugs/roids WHICH WILL NEVVVVVVER HAPPEN!

Bagwell was the more complete player and I believe he was the most beneficial to his team when it came to leadership also.

there at least will be a fixed number of year "penalty" before the writers will vote someone like Mcgwire in... maybe 10-20 years?....but I wouldn't doubt they are blackballing for a certain # of years..

Bagwell was a way better overall baseball player, Mig MAC hit homers..and that's about it

he only had 1600ish hits.... he only had over 100 rbi's a few times as well

Bagwell not only knocked in a lot more runs then McGwire, he scored alot more.... way more

Bagwell was more valuable to a team throughout his career....

        McGwire was a circus freak

The thing with a punishment is the writers my never vote the "steroid guys" in, but what about after 15 years when they come off the ballot. Who nows what the Veterans Committee will think of the steroid era in 20 years?

not sure what will happen...... Its a mess though....

I mean palmeiro definately won't get in besides having over 500 homers and over 3000 hits, right???

I dont see the writers voting in Palmeiro. But what happens in 20 or 30 years when steroid era guys are on the veteran's committee, I would think they would more sympathetic to guys like Palmeiro. There is a lot more info about steroids that will come out over the next few years. Do mangers not get in because they managed players that cheated? Do owners not get in because they ignored steroids for so long?

The way voting is done is a joke. It took Jim Rice all these years to get in, what changed about Rice over the years that he is now a HOF in 2009, but not in 1999? Look at the people who got votes this past election, Mo Vaughn 6, Mo was one of my favorite players of the past 20 years but he is not a HOF, and I do not understand any argument where he is a HOFer. The writers in my opinion have no credibility and therefore the respect and honor of the hall is decreasing each year.

I don't follow the HOF talk year in and year out but I'm astonished that big Mo Vaughn received six votes thats absurd. Growing up he was my favorite big guy next to Frank Thomas but he was not THAT great.

Bell getting 2 and Orosco getting 1 is obivously asinine but I'm not surprised by a few 1-2 token votes. But SIX 'professionals" voted for Vaughn....ridiculous.

Ryan, you continue to be the most ignorant idiot on the forum.

Ryan, have you ever played a sport in your life? Jeter has an outstanding glove and a great arm. More importantly he has a killer instinct when going after pop ups and fly balls.

                            Hopefully your post was sarcasm.

                            God be with you.
