    Who has High Defintion?
Who here has a HDTV and HD channels?

Just 3 days ago I got me a new Sony 46" LCD HDTV (1080p). Then added HD service from my cable company. The difference is amazing. I can not wait until all channels are broadcasted in HD.

I need to get a HD Dish Network receiver so I can get the channels (like ESPN2 HD) that I dont get through my cable company. It floors me they dont have ESPN2 HD when they carry ESPN HD. The company is Cox Communications by the way.

I also need to pick up one of those HD DVD players. I seen a 1080p DVD playing, and that sheit is crazy clear.

I just seen the Sony and Samsung DVD Blu-Ray/HD players are going for $1000 right now. Toshiba sells just a HD player, non Blu-Ray one for $500 I think it was.

Kind of high for something there is not much product for. I seen a list of movies, and it is not like you can go out and buy every movie in Blu-Ray DVD or HD DVD at the moment.

So needless to say, I will probably be waiting on this hardware until it comes down a bit.

I will stick to finding more ways to get more channels for sports in High Defintion.

            Agree onlooker, HDTV is great.

I have only had for a year. 42 Inch Panasonic Plasma, but I really enjoy it. Hard to watch the non-HDTV channels. My local cable network has ESPN, ESPN2, and NFLTV on in HD. I think they have about 15 channels altogether.

I think you are right to wait on the HDDVD players, the price will drop dramatically in future and selection now is poor.

I am about to bite the bullet and subscribe to Direct TV. They have the most HD channels available at this time. My cable company is only up to 20 HD channels and DTV offers close to 100, depending on region.

I know this thread is over a year old, but has anyone else moved to HDTV recently?

I bought a 32" LCD HDTV Dec 2006, just recently ordered the HD channels from my cable co. (Rogers), now I specifically look for HD broadcasts, regular tv doesn't compare!

Of course my 32" LCD now seems small, I'm looking for a 50" TV, HD of course.

As far as HD broadcasts go,1080i is the maximum supported by broadcast channels, in order to get full 1080p you'll need a blu-ray or other device (DVD player), for me 1080i on HD cable is sweet!

When I first got the 50", my wife gave me a hard time about paying the extra $7 a month for HD programming. Now, she wouldn't do without it! We both love it. She gets her shows... October Road, Grey's, ER, and Dancing With the Stars. And I get a WHOLE LOT of sports in crystal clear HD. Love it. Congratulations on upgrading! BTW, call up Cox and complain about ESPN2. I did that, and we had it in 2 months. Maybe good timing, but in my head, it worked. lol.

Yes I have a big screen Plasma HDTV. I also have Direct TV & Sunday Ticket w/ Superfan (which gives you most of the games in HD, sunday ticket by itself gives you none in HD). Make sure you order the 5lnb slim HD dish with the HD receiver (or HD-DVR receiver if you're into recording).

Yes, I need the DVR. So it will be the HDDVR.

Chuteboxe, they had added ESPN2 to their HD lineup already. This thread is over a year old. But I need more then 20 channels of HD, and that is with DTV.

I bought a 32" about a yr ago for sub 500, dont have hd cable or nothing just free over the air stuff, channels have about a 5-8 second delay somtimes so annoying for live betting, which i rarly do though. Use it for gaming too, honestly I dont recomend spending the big bucks on an expensive hd right now unless uve got lots extra money, best to buy a cheaper starter model and then wait and see what happens w/ tvs the next few years (and all broadcasts switch to hd)

that's why its good to have the new DTV equipment, the 5nlb slim line dish is configured to receive access to future HD stations not even implemented yet. more and more channels are being run in HD, sooner or later everything will be in HD.

No I haven't done that, I have a cable modem. Very low ping for games, great connection.

I was thinking about connecting to the internet through TV because there's some sort of new on demand feature with DTV, that requires internet access. So I'll have to look into that.

What's up guys... First let me take the time to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving...

Just a few things to remember when getting DTV HD.. I have had it for 4 years now and I like it... The HD package is a separate charge from your regular programming package... Get the dish that allows locals in HD as that is the most current one... It's a little bigger with 5 LMB's on it...

As far as TV's go I had a Mitsubishi XD-350U which I raelly liked but I decided to try a 50" Plasma out to see if I would like it... I took it back because I thought the projector had a sharper picture... I am going to upgrade to the XD-490U but as I mentioned before why would anyone buy a Plasma or LCD with only a 10K or 15K contrast ratio..? If you are going to buy one why not get one with ONE MILLION to 1 contrast ratio...?

By the way I think ESPN has the best HD picture... Also as Pete mentioned there is a little delay with having the dish and it does suck for live and halftime betting or last second bettors like myself...

There is also something new coming out to replace Blue Ray and I think it's called T Ray I can't recall... This was a few years ago but I remember that it will have more then double the storage... Light will follow that which I guess to be around 2030.. Can you imagine using "LIGHT" to store data..? Light will hold exponentually more data then stuff like Blue Ray does now...

Not much difference in the type of tv you choose

I have a couple LCD HD TVs, and I agree with BB that ESPN seems to have the best picture as far as sports go, with FOX in 2nd. But the National Geographic channel picture is IMO better than any of the other channels for other shows.

TBS HD channel to me is by far the worst one I recieve. Comcast is my provider. I believe I get 15 HD channels, which is better than the 4 I started with a couple years ago.

                                            later

I can pay 3K to 4.5K, maybe one of these:

I have DirecTV and they charged me $100 to install the bigger dish that has multiple LNB's for two HDTV receivers. They wouldn't budge on the $100 because I was an established customer... but they'll install everything for free for any new customers.

I just got a new 42" Sharp Aquos LCD (1080p) and 23" Samsung LCD (1080i) this year and they both rock! I looked at many plasmas and decided LCD was better for me, especially when viewing from side angles. DirecTV has way more HD channels than anyone else and of course all the sports packages - all NFL games are in HD and the Redzone HD channel takes fantasy football to a whole 'notha level. None of it's cheap, but I can't believe I watched that fuzzy crap (standard def) all my life. Worth every penny... especially to a sports bettor!

FYI - DirecTV has ESPN2 in HD on ch.72... but yeah, it's a drag Comedy Channel hasn't switched. It's probably the only channel I give two sh*ts about that doesn't broadcast in HD.

NEITHER!!! As for your dish I would buy one off of Ebay and put it up yourself... The mount is already there all you have to do is replace the dish itself which should be easy to do since the poll mount is already in place... That's the hardest part IMO... Just aim it in the same direction as the current dish and you should have it in no time...

Ok fokes I think you will have to look at the comparison for yourself... The one on the left is 10K:1 Plasma on the right 1M:1 LED... The resolution is 1920x1080 does anything more need to be said..??? It is much thinner then any plasma or LCD for that matter not to mention lighter...

I prefer plasmas for HD. Every LCD I've seen just doesn't look as good in HD, darks don't display as well either. My cable guy even remarked when connecting my stuff, that I have one of the better HD pictures he's seen.

WOW now that is some cool sh*t... I know this 3D is coming out soon because a buddy of mine who is in S. Korea said Samsung has a protype... This is good info.(link) dude...

I think 47" is the biggest you can get consumer wise right now but that is going to quickly change...

My advice to ANYONE looking to buy a new TV is to wait one year or less and keep your eye on these LED's and the contrast ratio's... I believe in one year you will be able to get an LED TV with HIGH CONTRAST for 3K... I mean if you think there is a big differance from standard to HD then I can't imagine what you will think when you compare the picture quality between the two pictures (plasma/conventual LCD to OLED)...
