Hmmm, nothing really stands out in my memory about the conversation. I know I never said part of it would be hanging out with "degenerate gamblers," as that was already understood. A day after the interview, they called and offered an agreeable salary, I accepted and told her I had a new job. She smiled in that way that, well, a way that makes a man feel alive if you know what I mean, gently touched my hand and said, "That's nice dear. Now go peel me a grape and then split some more logs for winter." That was about it.
