I wasn't sure if I owned one or not - I thought one may have landed on my bookshelves by accident somewhere along the line - but a quick once-over reveals no religious texts of any kind.

I feel glad about that. It's like when someone asks a question about Britney Spears or something and I don't know the answer and I'm kind of glad not to know.

That is the satisfaction I get from not having a bible. If I have a toilet paper emergency, I can go with the yellow pages.

Because it is my belief that Jesus was the Son of God sent to Earth to die for my sins so that I may repent and exist in heaven for the rest of eternity. For somebody to do that for me, and to even leave the chance open for people that have denied him and laughed at him...well lets just say that those things are enough to convince me to worship him

That and a lot of scientific research I have done that have always led me to the conclusion that there has to be a God, an original Creator. The reasons why I believe Christianity to be the true religion would take days for me to explain and are not for this forum.

At some point in the next 80 years I will probably die, making my existence here on Earth mean nothing, other than the good and bad things I do to people and the children I leave behind. Even if I achieve the monetary status of Bill Gates I can't take it with me when I die, making money really worthless when you are talking about 80 years in the future. And 80 years is a split second in the scheme of things, billions of years, eternity.

So everything to me has to do with eternity, not the things I may accumulate from now until I die. Just try to conceive 100 years compared to eternity. Its mind blowing really how short we are here on Earth. I ramble.

WileOut, I respect your beliefs, but you didnt answer why you believe what you believe. I personally believe in a God, but only because i choose to believe there is a God. Not because a book tells me there is, not because my parents tells me there is, but because like you I think there has to be a creator. the whole chicken vs egg dilemma, which came first? from a logical standpoint, an egg could never become a chicken without the care a mother chicken. so in simplest terms that leads me to believe there is a creator. however i could very easily be wrong, we couldve randomly formed out of matter and evolved into millions of different species, who knows. the fact is it doesnt matter. God has never spoke to me and told me jack. But I do know that I was giving a life, and the decisions that i make are my decisions, based on my on reasoning, my own logic, my own experience. this is my life to live. no book or noone has to tell me this.

now back to the bible. the bible was written by MAN. transcribed by MAN. censored by MAN. translated by MAN. edited by MAN. and canonized by MAN. The Bible is the word of MAN.
If anything should shoot off red flags is the whole process of a biblical canon.

really? this is God's word? why is it that man is the one deciding what is and what isnt god's word?

in old times, rulers and churches were in cahoots with each other. (and still to some extent today) but in order to monopolize power over the people, churches would often modify how certain biblical scripture is interpreted. that is why there's a million different denominations today. and people want something to believe in. religion was used (and still is) to enslave man. to condition man. you are taught that you are born an evil sinner and that you NEED christ to save you, if you want to live in heaven for eternity. you are taught that without christ you will have no moral compass to guide you. after all only christ knows whats right and wrong.
God never told you this, MAN told you this. MAN wrote books and claim god inspired him. why do you believe what these men tell you and not what david koresh says or what joseph smith of LDS says. they claimed to be inspired by god also. did not enough christians agree with them to get approved as authentic?
