After watching it many times he was trying to lead with his shoulder but his helmet made first contact. If you look at it close you will see that he lowered his right shoulder on the hit.

I think in slow motion the helmets had contact first so it's illegal hit. It was at least 10 inches higher than where it needed to be.

He absolutely tried to turn and use his shoulder, but his helmet clearly hit first. It happened because he didn't plan far enough in advance, and its his own fault.

If it was an illegal hit the fumble would have been overturned with a penaly...it would have been a 1 vs 2 play. Ravens score and cover

Theres a difference between leading with your helmet into someones stomach and leading with a helmet into their head. Although personally, I don't like anyone leading with a helmet in any scenario, it would be tough to play the game without running backs being able to lower their head when carrying the ball.

Also, I suggest you watch the replay again and see if you still think he lead with his shoulder.

I wish the NFL would research better helmets. I read in a science journal years ago about a helmet that was like a sponge but protected the head and neck better than what they currently use. They also had an improved mouthpiece that reduced the amount of concussions. I think the majority of big injuries are due to helmet to helmet. Imagine if they could eliminate that alone.
