I think this guy got the last huge rookie contract before they switched the Rule (so he really lucked out there) I think Cam Newton got the max like 4 yrs / 22 mil, after they changed it. They don't have anyone else for him to throw so he has to throw to the only person on the team that can catch it. Not his fault that the front office of Lions doesn't surround him with talent.

Look at Falcons. They went and got Matt Ryan players that can make a difference in offense. Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez, Stephen Jackson.

Can you name the Lions RB or their 2nd WR?

u sure about nate burleson? i think they cut him last season but everyone outside of calvin sucks on that team. 5-11 in the works

Capmageddon. The last 3 years before the rookie salary scale was implemented the Lions had a #1, #2, and #2 draft pick. Those three picks, Megatron, Suh, and Stafford, take up almost half the Lions salary cap. They had to restructure these deals to free up cap space, and that meant giving Stafford a long term extension and more guaranteed money. He's nowhere near as old or as accomplished as Brady to be thinking about taking a pay cut to win a championship. Besides, its not even that bad of a deal, he's making less than Romo and slightly more than Rivers, neither of whom are anything more than mediocre. Its not like he's making Joe Flaco money. The only thing significant is that so much of it is guaranteed, but that's because the Lions needed to free up cap.

Hopefully this year his knee has healed up so he doesn't have to throw funny anymore. With the addition of Bush (and Burleson who took a pay cut to come back) will make the Lions look more like they did when they had Jahvid Best. That and the upgraded secondary should work wonders.

Packers still top of the NFC North, but I consider the Lions #2 with the Vikings and Bears practically rebuilding.

solid quarterback. best lions qb of all time already.

good pickup with reggie bush. very dynamic player. lions have a really good team this year. calvin was playing hurt last year and dominated. guy can win games by himself.

look for a lot more out of that front 4 this year if suh and fairly can stay healthy and play together.

Oh, and BTW, Bobby Layne is the best Lions QB of all time. After that, it's pretty much the worst collective list of QB's ever in the NFL. So saying Stafford is the "best" means absolutely nothing.

They touted Stafford's near 5000 yards last season. This stat is a joke for him cause his team is almost always behind so he throws on almost every play and still lose. Has the most amount of useless yards among nfl qbs. What a joke this qb is.
