    Circuit City Firesale Begins Tomorrow
    Bankruptcy is official.

They will be starting a fire sale tomorrow, Saturday the 17th, which they say will go until existing merchandise runs out/likely until the end of February.

I would NOT recommend making a big purchase like a new TV considering there will be no company to return it to, but for those of you that were in the market for small gadgets, CDs, DVDs, etc... keep your eyes open on your local CC store and the website.

Sad to see 30,000+ losing their jobs (I've worked there too, couple of my friends and previous co-workers in this number), but for you thrifty types, may be a good chance to buy a few things at a great price.

I just started the same tread.
all warrenties will still be honored due to a third party that handles all their warrenty work.
I going to get me a big ass TV for a fraction of retail

Be prepared for that huge line at checkout. I'd rather just add $150 to my bets tonight than go through that nightmare.

I don't know Lou but when Linens N Things closed last month the first weekend they had a 10% off, then the next week 20%, then 40%, then 60% then 75%. I'm assuming the more you wait the better discount you get unless the item sells out first.

I wander if there will really be any good deals? I was reading an article today that they jack up the prices before they have the so called bankruptcy sales. Any truth to this?

I think you might be disappointed if you're expecting that great of a deal. I'd expect you'll get maybe 15% off, maybe even less if you're looking for Sony or other prominent name brands. They won't have much trouble selling HDTVs. No need for them to give huge discounts.

Currently just a FAQ. Don't think it will be back up. And if it is, won't be for long.

The retailer's Web site and call center will cease to operate after Jan. 18.

Believe it or not, Blu-Rays aren't marked up that much to begin with. There likely won't be a great sale on them (something like 10% off to start) and scavengers will scoop up all the top titles at that price. As pavy mentioned, if you wait the prices will keep dipping, but by the time they are at good value the good movies will be long gone.

this is true for fake bankrupcty sales like you see furniture stores doing all the time. the "going out of business sale" that they have 3 times a year.

This is absolutely true. The creditors come in and set the prices. They will list everything back to full retail price and then start with 10% or some low number. On many items you will find you could of got it cheaper the week before to so called liquidation started.

Yes that is true. Which is why you should always price check online before making purchases. Just because its 50% OFF!!!!! Doesn't mean they didn't mark it up before hand.

The best deals will be on smaller items, like I was saying. Webcams for example, I saw the one I bought for $90 on clearance for $40 last time I went. Webcams, microphones, laptop bags, blank CDs / DVDs, things like that I believe will have great value.

You can still find some good deals don't get me wrong. You just have to do your due diligence and make sure you are getting a good price.

There are a few messages boards that are scouring constantly looking for good deals like we are constantly looking around for the best line

Check out the forums http://www.fatwallet.com or http://www.slickdeals.net

I am sure some of those people already have the scoop on what will be good deals.

might go by and check it out tommorow to see the prices and how much inventory they have. I wonder how cheap I could get a decent video camera?

their not gonna pay to have merchadise loaded and shipped to other retailers.
the stores are open untill most or all of merchandise is sold.
I doubt there will be huge values tommorrow but the longer you wait the less its gonna cost. but all merchandise will be picked through by March when they estimate the clearance sale will be over

                                                            I agree whole-heartedly.

But when I used to work at Best Buy (yes I worked at both of these places, haha) they had an employee discount that was 10% over wholesale cost. So we got to see how much things were actually marked up.

The biggest mark-ups? Batteries and Blank CDs/DVDs. A 100 pack of CDs we were selling for $15.99, I could buy for $1.09.

But as a DVD collector, I was disappointed to see that movies going for $19.99 were only discounted down to about $16.99.

                                                            Keep in mind with Blu-Ray;

                                                            - They are more expensive to produce with all of the high definition re-mastering and what not that goes into them
                                                            - They are still a relatively new form of media so maximizing their production hasn't been achieved yet

I agree the prices are absurd, which is why I keep buying DVDs despite the fact that Blu-Ray is much better. But thats just the sad truth, until production gets better (and eventually some movies get older and cheaper)
