#3The cop would just claim it took him that long to catch up to you in order to pull you over. So with that being said, your just screwed and would just have to pay the fine unfortunately.Comment -

#4Yes but it depends on their county regulations. He can still chase you because you were speeding in his jurisdiction. Many stations tell their cops not to chase people into other counties howeverComment -

#14Pal, plain and simple, you fukked up. You were speeding, he got you. He would have followed you 40 feet in 100yds in, pal, just fight it in court, if anything the points get tossed and you pay the fine. #17Getting pulled over in either county would have netted you the ticket, so that becomes a moot point. However, if you show up at court and ask for a trial and the cop doesn't show up for it (80% change he won't). Then the ticket gets thrown out and your out nothing but your time. Although if the cops shows the worst you will have to do is pay the ticket.Originally posted by UntilTheNDofTimEwait so if i pulled 20 feet up and got a ticket in Sacramento county and i went to court and he didnt show up the ticket gets dismissed, please clarify and explain what i should have done if i infact knew the county line was 20 feet forwardComment -

#18well supposedly the cop told me the ticket process would be handled over the mail, i get to actually go to court for it? , and until i go to court the ticket wont get to dmv or my insurance? the ticket amount dosent bother me at all, the fact that my insurance will for sure go up is what bothers meOriginally posted by DeucePal, plain and simple, you fukked up. #19You call the court and request a court date. Usually they waive the points if you show up for court, if the cop shows up that is, if he doesnt show at all they waive the entire fine and points. Most that will happen is you pay it pal, nothing to lose.Originally posted by UntilTheNDofTimEwell supposedly the cop told me the ticket process would be handled over the mail, i get to actually go to court for it? , and until i go to court the ticket wont get to dmv or my insurance? the ticket amount dosent bother me at all, the fact that my insurance will for sure go up is what bothers meComment -

thats alot of donuts...cops DO show up...dont kid urself
that being said...my wife has a speeding ticket she is in the process of fighting
she sent in a discovery request and has NOT been contacted by anyone after submitting the request
there has been one extension granted by the judge for time to receive discovery
on the paper she signed it says "if for any reason the cop cannot show on the new court date you agree to one more extension"
so its all set up for the cop to show up
I mean why wouldnt everyone just fight their tickets if cops didnt show up??
here in california....traffic tickets are making up from the broke state...its all set up for the cop to show
I do know this for a fact though....ANY EXTENSION is GOOD for the defense
GL!
ill let you guys know the outcome after Jan 16Comment -

If you show up at court and he doesnt show the ticket will be completely dropped BUT if he does show up you will get hit with the fine and it WILL show up on insurance
if you handle it through the mail you can request Deferred Ajudication and you agree to go 90 or 180 days without a speeding ticket kinda like probation. you pay a fee to get into the program and it doesnt show up on insurance or your record BUT if you get a ticket again you have to pay BOTH tickets and they BOTH go on your record.
You can also do Defensive Driving and it will NOT go on your record but again you have to pay for Defensive Drivin and take the course...
Those are your options pal if you choose to JUST pay the FINE it WILL go on your driving record and will likely cause an increase in your insurance costComment -

the cop wrote my wife up for 26 miles over the limit
and yes if you lose in court you get full fine and points....and no option for traffic school
but from what ive seen...if you show up...and ask the cop some questions...and have a good driving record...the judge usually lowers the fine and dosent give points against ur licenseComment -

#29i've had many tickets, and been pulled over many times more than that. everyone here is offering good advice, but you should still call the court when you recieve the ticket and go over all the options with them.
in my experience, the clerks have always been helpful, and no one knows the options better than them. its best to have all your choices verbatim in front of you, and then you can make your decision. I usually choose differed adjudication, it costs a little bit of money, but its less of a hassle.Comment -

#30plead not guilty and hope he has the day off, maybe reschedule at the last allowable time too, one time i rescheduled 3 tickets to the same day and only 1 cop showed up, so you have a better chance, and if u are guilty you can ask the judge to reduce the fine or set up payments, but as far as the jurisdiction goes, u committed a crime in his county and i am sure the neighbor county will say its just fine with them so ur best bet is plead not guily and hope for the best.Comment -

#31This reminds me of a story that happened to me not long ago. I was late for a lunch meeting and got caught doing 55 in a 30. However traffic was heavy and by the time the cop turned around and turned his lights on I had a big lead and had woven in and out of cars, anticipating him trying to get me. I found a gas station when I was out of his sight and pulled in and went to the back. I got out and started walking into the gas station. He came flying into the gas station like a rocket. He said get back in your car. So I did. When I went to court for it the judge was furious that the cop had not charged me with something other than just a speeding ticket when the cop described what happened. Had to pay almost 200 bucks. But I almost got away. I thought I had hid well. Was not to be.Comment -

#33I was caught speeding and just paid the ticket and did the traffic school over the Internet.
Come to find out the violation is still on my record cause the traffic school failed to send the certificate of completion to the court. Didnt know until I switched insurance companies recently. Higher rate cause of that. I dont even remember what the schools name was damn it.
Oh well at least itll fall off my record next month.Comment -

#34To my knowledge, in the state of florida if you are clocked in one county/city the cop can follow you and pull you over in the other. All of beaches have their own police and the neighboring cities or counties to the east have their own sheriff or police department so you can enter 3 different jurisdictions within a one mile radius. They almost have to pull you over in another city by the time they follow you and run your plates.Comment -

#35Can they follow into another state?
Cause on the NV-CA border they got cops hiding a few miles before the border. Once saw 5 cruisers take off after speeders all at once. I thought I was one but they instead got the guy next to me.Comment
