when kids is a teenager, that is the worst
when kids is in college, you're broke and your kid graduates with no job.

I may not see eye to eye with RS on much (besides his women's volleyball insight) but I agree with him wholeheartedly on his views about bringing kids into this current world.

My parents lived in a different time. They were excited to raise kids in a democracy having grown up under an authoritarian regime. My experiences lead me to believe that all forms of government are instruments of exploitation, including (or perhaps most especially) democracy. While I think I've led an engaging and interesting life, true fulfillment has always eluded me. That could be the result of my own issues, or the environment in which I live. I'm not saying that Bread and Robyn are giving up necessarily; they obviously have discussed the matter and both agree that they don't want kids for probably a sundry of reasons. Just think that if you want kids, and your only reason not to is uncertainty in the world, that excuse won't fly with me. If you have the means -- financially and in terms of your devotion to do what it takes to raise a child -- then you should have them and look at it in terms of making the world better when that child grows up and becomes a contributing and positive member in society. My personal stance is that some people are truly not meant to be parents, and that the pressures of society shouldn't weigh on them to the point where they choose to go down that path with any sort of reservation. Raising children to be good people and imparting positive values to them is probably the best way to improve the world in a substantive fashion.
I myself don't feel that call to parenthood internally, so that is the primary factor in my current desire not to have kids. I think that I still bear the same responsibility as everyone else to realize that our world and societies need improving, and so I try to approach those issues from an organizational standpoint.
