Billions of dollars, and most of it square money is entering the market during this time, that is not a factor during the regular season. Lots of parlay risk, whether OTB, teasers, or cards. Futures, and contest payouts to worry about which again is not a factor during the regular season.

I live in Vegas, and the books on a regular day open around 8/9am. All the books in town are opening @ 6 in anticipation of the floods of tourists. Also Vegas is such a small part of the pie now. Offshore are the ones taking serious risk, whether in Costa Rica, Europe, or China.

Flip a coin. You say heads and I say tails. If it lands heads does that make you smarter? It's all a guessing game in general.

The consensus here is that the books run circles around the selection committee and that there are no coin flips.

Last year in the first round there were 3 games where the lower seed was favored over the higher seed.
                  #10 WVU -1.5 vs #7 Gonzaga...Zags won by 23
                  #9 UCONN -2 vs #8 Iowa...Iowa won by 13
                  #11 NC St -3 vs #6 SDSU...NC st won by 14

Also much like this year's #3 Marquette vs #14 Davidson, #3 Georgetown was only -3.5 vs #14 Belmont yet G'town won by 15.
